Do you guys have any tips to finish a four bar loop? I am having a hard time at creating transitions and different sections. My perfectionist ass thinks that a project should never consist of only one chord progression, so the most of my projects are stuck in that same form, just maybe more polished after time.
Jeremiah Cruz
add a bridge with a chord progression with a different mood or experiment with non-cyclical chord progressions
Thoughts on my mixing? I think the bass is a little too heavy. I make it sound good in my headphones then in my car speakers it’s too much

What the best way to learn how to make trap. Is it easier than edm??
Leo Williams
Easy or hard depends more on the quality of the producer than on genre. You have great, complex production in virtually any genre, and the same for poor, lazy ones.

should I install Ableton and everything on my SSD?

Do you pick the music you create by how easy it is to make?

of course

Okay I’m here. Waking up past noon... make more music today, yay :s
Go read Walden, but don’t actually that shit sucks. Read the power of now instead
Jayden Cooper
very interesting, thank you. i guess it checks out since that's also an UK production from a band founded in the 80s. also i'm not sure i understand, are you saying that what we hear is an actual bird chirping?
>Back when what.cd was up you could download massive vinyl FLAC rips of obscure field recordings and now they're all gone forever this is very sad. what is the closest thing still around on the internet?
Levi Garcia
use reference tracks if you mix on headphones or your low end will always be too loud
just turn down the bass in your car. car speakers are terrible compared to headphones. I like the tasteful bass amount
Carter Howard
this is surprisingly ok. your guitar tones are way too plucky sounding, other than the tremolo picking. bad DI amp sims maybe? performances overall could be tightened up too. kick is terrible, too clicky. I like the hats/cymbals and snare sound though for this kind of thing. maybe look up a tea kit to take it to another level
the composition is missing a lead - vocals or some kind of instrumental line is necessary imo. unless it's a backtrack for something
Henry Hill
thanks for the feedback! I was actually going to put some vocals over it before posting it but I am still in the writing stage. I'll try to fix those problems
Leo Russell
shit on this. i will probably only keep the second half
Meditation just makes you better at not paying attention.if anything it fills creativity
Jace Butler
i like the intro. i feel like the lead could be louder
Zachary Kelly
Interesting. Would be curious to hear how it sounds AFTER you mix it.
Lucas Clark
pretty muddy. drums need more punch, the 808 is maybe a bit too loud. lead that comes in at :50 is a bit too out of tune and quiet. kind of smears the patterns going on. at 1:17 there's some distortion/clipping going on in the filtered background that I'm not a fan of. maybe from pushing mastering plugins? the tag or fx at 1:28 is just bright and obnoxious. overall I would say you need to manage the reverb/delays a lot more to tighten everything up
Jace Brooks
what if i keep going forever and never make anything good?
Carter Phillips

no

You start shitposting on here.

You can't even say if something is too loud or too low since user didn't establish a reference point in the mix. No two sounds are balanced on that entire thing, so how to even try to judge proportions? That, and it even has crazy frequency spikes that completely deform the understanding of certain instruments. The only useful advice after is to go back to the basics, and think of mixing as balancing sounds, not jist struggling just to make them all even appear and have some kind of presence.
Elijah Cruz
oh yes how many of us here will die never having actually made the music we thought up

I mean, I have a reference point on my near fields which I use as a base for most mixing. His mix is pretty loud, which leads me to believe that he's done at least some kind of work there - that's the perspective I've based that from. That said, it is equally likely that he just slammed it through an ozone preset for us here on Yas Forums so who knows
Jaxson Wilson
We love you, user
Jayden Robinson
ESPECIALLY you
Dominic Flores
truly, thank you :) the only 'mixing' i've done there is play with the levels a bit and put a multiband compressor on the master track. i dont usually mix or master beyond that unless i really like the track.
Daniel Howard
Yeah, but before thinking of standard loudness, mixing is about managing the relationships between the sounds you're working with. If you look from the perspective inside the mix, if you turn down that 808, that snare which is slightly panned to the left would become even more unbearably to the ear than it already is. And considering the amount of rogue peaks going on there, having managed to make his low end come out and have some presence is the only thing giving any solidity to the track. I get what you're saying, but in many cases you can't really go about correcting details without first at least getting the overall sound relationships to relate in a resonable way.
Joseph Thompson
I mean he said he's put a multiband on the master and doesn't usually "mix or master beyond that" so I'm not sure nuanced details like that will be the most productive thing ever
Nathan Bailey
>the only 'mixing' i've done there is play with the levels a bit and put a multiband compressor on the master track You need to mind bad resonant peaks even as you play and record your stuff, man. They not only can throw your sense of the song off balance and harm your composition, or introducing a perception of the sounds which will make your mixing stage much more complicated, as frequent exposition to them can damage your hearing. Also gives you ear fatigue during sessions which will harm your overall judgements.
Blake Fisher
So what you're saying? We should just give him some hard slaps on the face and call it a day?
Brandon Thomas
good points there. I do need to start with the basics again to avoid shit like that, you guys are right.
Christopher Rodriguez
the vocal sample seems too loud, like it's eating up volume space and getting compressed too much (? i'm ESL) i'm sick right now >inb4 coronavirus ^ my ears aren't working properly and my mixing might be off. the mix is kinda dry i guess, and form isn't so good right now (no sections to speak of). only been doing this for 6 months. thanks in advance clyp.it/ciixqomc
I mean we say what we hear in reference to everything else? either that or just ignore it like most things get in prod?
oh shit is that breaks? god damn yes, this is too dry. snare could use some verb, the breakdown at :20 needs it too. compositionally you're missing a lead or some kind of hook, this sounds like a backtrack for a late 90s video game. no sub at all coming through either. definitely a good start for an OST kind of tune

i've never read it but I completely agree with the philosophy and it helped (a lot) with my anxiety and depression. I'm sure people tack on their own bullshit in their new age rehashes but mindfulness is something they will literally bring up to you in (legitimate) therapy.

Stop searching for "inner peace", stop looking for an opioid to blot out the world, stop watching hollywood movies and television with a toasty golden werther's original vibe where everything comes full circle in karmic fashion or bullshit about how after we die we return to the earth or we're all made from stars or saying things like "now buddhism, that's a religion i can get behind" and believing the holocaust happened and the world wars weren't human sacrifice events of gentiles, ignoring that Jeffrey Epstein and thousands of other blackmail agents of the shadow government use blackmailed pedophiles as puppet politicians, financial fixers and celebrity influencers feed you shit through a sluice affixed to your mind in the form of TV and various plebstream emissions from the jewish-blackmailed pedophile complex designed by RANDcorp, stop cringing like a teenage valley girl sticking your fingers in your ears saying "NOT LISTENING" sticking your head in the sand pretending you don't know a good percentage of what I'm saying rings true and applies specifically to you, the reader, who has historically found oscar acceptance speeches inspiring and been wearing a mask and living on cognitive dissonance and mutually exclusive half baked wisdom your whole life.
5 Israelis arrested on 9/11 with cameras set up on tripods anticipating the planes hitting, cognitive dissonance cringe referencing back to what talk show/panel show man got laugh at to program what is socially acceptable, but it's in the FBI reports and leaks that they knew it was coming and Shin Bet owned the airports, Mossad ran the software for the air exercises that day called PTech, it was pulled off because all the leaders have videos of them fucking a kid in fort knox, 1,000,000+ dead due to self-mailed anthrax from Fort Detrick, CIA. if you deny reality you are in right now via "Based Schizo" u should be bludgeoned to death with your roor bong and stabbed with your fucking incense sticks.
I have posts from 2007, archives of people calling me schizo for saying there's a guy called Jeffrey Epstein who has child sex slaves and had his house rigged with hidden cameras and that's how the government actually works. Schizo, retard, fuckhead, idiot, that doesn't make sense. But they were all wrong and so are all of you because you're shite and your thoughts lack skill.
