Music makes mundane tasks easier so in a sense it is more than entertainment. It assists in life improving activities such as cleaning, it's more like vegetables or something that benefits you. Though, we probably are missing out on the mental improvements it takes to do mundane tasks with just our thoughts and the sounds of the world. So in that sense music can become a crutch if you have to listen to it every time you do something mundane. Not sure, let me think about it a bit today

How people form their taste in music is 100% anecdotal, so it's really hard to argue for music's importance by just pointing to great artists or masterpiece albums. So looking at it from a different, more concrete perspective; throughout history music has proven time and time again to help catalyze cultural revolutions and social reforms. There's the Nueva canción in Latin America, Minjung-Gayo in Asia, Singing Revolution in Europe, and the Harlem Renaissance in North America. Music is one of the greatest enzymes for cultural diffusion, and to discredit it just because you think some modern artist is a faggot isn't fair.

For me, music is what gets me through the day. Not trying to say that without music id off myself instantly, but I think without it I'd be far less motivated to do anything. It helps slug through the mundane but it also can be a beautiful experience when focused on its own.
