99% of parents are only concerned with what will make them personally happy when it comes to their decisions with whether to have kids, and how to raise those kids.

What would be more objectively "best" for the kids is not a concern of most parents, because they would have to look in the mirror and face the uncomfortable truth that they are thinking about what they personally want.

For a lot of people, the best thing they can do for their kids, is to not have them, because most parents can't resist the urge to program and indoctrinate their kids with their own personal belief systems. They also can't resist the urge to have a kid that will have a miserable quality of life (due to some birth defect or physical ailment), because the parent still gets an internal feeling of "happiness" from having the kid and raising it anyway.

Most parents treat their children as if they are their property, to treat and brainwash however they see fit (essentially treating them as slaves). They don't realize that children are only supposed to come "through them" into this world, but that the children are not their property to mold however they see fit.
