So this is a high school teacher and this is going to be a flat-earth thread.
Ok first the bait: >hurr earth is flat durrrrr >(it's really not)
Now my point: It's the obvious reaction to call every flat-earthling a retard. BUT can YOU actually provide a simple, easy accessible argument and experiment that is really trivial enough to laugh about those people who just don't get it? In my mind, a critical thinker SHOULD question everything.
Those "retards" are actually closer to fully grown up personalities than most of the people who laugh about them. At least the flat-earthlings try to THINK for themselves, and although they cannot do it very well, in some of their arguments are actually went some respectable effort.
One of them posted a challenge, using flight charts and 3 90 degree turns that would connect. Shouldn't be too hard to find with some googling. There are also some easily accessible ancient era geometry problems that would allow you to calculate the approximate spherical size of the earth. These are just the first couple things off the top of my head. I'm not gonna go look them up for you.
Dylan Harris
those things are already assuming the earth is a sphere, they don't provide prove as such.
btw the easiest argument would be, no matter where you are, the gravitational force-field is perpendicular to the surface of the earth.
Geometrically, if you believe Newton's law applies on large sales as it does in a local lab, this demonstrates that the earth cannot possibly be flat.
Juan Price
The fact that there isn't even a coherent model of a flat earth that you could disprove should probably be enough prove that flat earthers really have no idea what theay are talking about.
Wyatt Ross
anyways, go to the beach look at a ship and see what happens. It will dissapear bottom first, clearly something that happens if the earth is spherical.
That's why they are models Mr. Teacher. ffs. Physics doesn't say this is how this shit works it says that on this scale we can calculate it this way. MODELLS
For example that's why quantum physics is so fucked up bc it works totally different than anything what we experience
High school teacher my ass, fuck off and get a different job
Also watch Behind the curve on Netflix of you don't find it funny, you are retarded. Flat eartjers literally prove themselves wrong.
Also give us one piece of evidence not disproveable by high school physics for the flat earth model
Camden Green
Questioning everything makes you autistic. Why would I question something that doesn't affect or interest me either way. What if it's all made up? Rather than try to prove something inconsequential to people who don't care they could use their critical thinking to actually gain an advantage in life.
Robert Rodriguez
>Also give us one piece of evidence not disproveable by high school physics for the flat earth model
The fact that we have a magnetosphere, climate, and a day/night cycle should be more than enough to quell that kind of thinking. There’s a difference between critical thinking and being objectively incorrect. >yes op is a bait master >yes I replied to his master bait >sue me
Colton Hill
All fine and dandy.
I do NOT approved their lack of education that makes it hard to argue with them.
What I am trying to point out is, that there are too many people who are just as dump and just as ignorant and maybe all of this even more than the average flat-earther.
Brandon Wood
*) dumb
I am obviously not a native speaker, as you must have noticed by now
Carson Cook
Questioning the self evident does not make you functioning, it means the exact opposite, it means that the hundreds of years and millions of minds who have used the accepted information to get results that came before you are way WAY smarter because instead of circle jerking with other troglodytes about it, they just use it and it works. For example, the guy using light to try and disprove the round earth accidentally proving it and then trying to develop a new experiment because he can't accept what his own setup is proving to him.
Andrew Jackson
There’s a difference between looking at the world though a critical and objective eye, and discounting foundational information for the sake “sheeple belieb everythang theys told so I gotsta say they wrog!”
Jackson Foster
>First you give me a prove the Nazis had it wrong buck teeth faggot learn to fucking write before you claim dominance over anything jesus bro i never meet blacks on discord that write like this, only inbred hicks
Go to ocean, see how ships sink below horizon. Go on ship yourself, make sure the ship is not falling down the edge, see how the coast dissapears below horizon
Ryan Mitchell
ok ... but for hundreds of years people in Europe believed the earth was flat. And before there even was a debate about that people just didn't really think about it because it just didn't matter to them. and obviously they were pretty functional. So being ignorant is better than being wrong? I don't know.
I'm just here to point out the irony that in a thread "about thinking for yourself" you parrot this retarded modern myth. There is absolutely no evidence that Europeans believed in a flat Earth. And plenty of evidence to the contrary
according to round math the great american eclipse would be completely impossible with the speed of the moon. saw a video of this a while ago but jewtube got rid of it or is just hiding it.
Jason Campbell
I say the Earth is flat because astronomer/physicists have done nothing useful for decades. Start inventing cool technology again for people and I won't discredit your existence fags.
Jordan Price
I've never seen a firefighter put out a fire irl, lets discredit them and spend that money on fireworks. Fireworks are bitch'n.
Brandon Harris
i get it now! the moon just happens to orbit the earth and rotate at such a precise speed that we havent ever seen an inch more of what our ancestors saw. and the sun and moon arent the same size, one is 400x bigger than the other and a million miles away. totally makes sense
Landon Robinson
Come on dude. You don't honestly believe that NASA has contributed technologies that improve the average person's life like they did back in the Cold War.
Carson Murphy
That's not "a thread about thinking for yourself", at least I didn't intend it to become one.
In general, being cleverly wrong is of more value than being correct by chance.
But then, I don't say flat earthers are smart or anything. My point is, they are still better than 99% of the people who are saying that they are idiots without even knowing why that is.
And I am willing to accept that you know your stuff. But that is not the question.
Is there a simple experiment or an argument that can derive from everyday experience that the earth is flat? So that the majority of people can have this intuitive understanding? Or are they just repeating stuff they haven't disgusted themselves?
>Obviously I think that's the case.
Lincoln Morgan
I don't think NASA has enough funding to do anything. This is big tech, elon and all those other billionaires are throwing money at it and spacex is where?
Just gotta grind through all the bullshit so we can get to asteroid mining.
Brandon Evans
Gravity.
Robert Butler
>Just gotta grind through all the bullshit so we can get to asteroid mining. you sound like a fucking little kid
Jonathan Ramirez
Also, fuck the average person, they still think the earth may be flat and call it "critical thinking."
Colton Hall
Good idea.
Caleb Myers
lol op doesn't respond
Grayson Martinez
Well if we could mine asteroids, wouldn't that help the average person? Mining? Boo boring Mining in space? Fucking awesome.
And at that point it'd have to be easy to get into space without decades of training.
Elijah Stewart
F
Luis Mitchell
Yeah I have a great experiment. Just go on a plane. You can clearly see a curve
James Thompson
sorry, I was typing and the thread grew and I missed that.
that's actually one of my favorite historical experiments, but its intention is to demonstrate the rotation of the earth and nothing about the shape.
Easton Davis
lol space conveyors right?
If there was raw priceless unobtainium that could fit in a rocket or shuttle maybe. but until then no
Juan Lee
Is only a theory. No proof it exists. Just what we call our observation of things falling down.
