Watching The Turning and The Dreamcatcher with my gf makes me realize how fucking SHIT horror has gotten.
There's always some sunken-eyed cardboard woman in a creepy house with a creepy kid(s) who draw creepy pictures or have scary toys. Nothing of substance happens for the first fucking HOUR. If you take away the cheap horror soundscape all you have for the first half of the film is the woman dropping a plate, hearing a dog bark outside, talking to the stupid kid, and maybe slipping in the shower.
Sure maybe a fishing hook will get caught in her hand and you'll get a jumpscare, maybe the kid will even start sleepwalking and do weird shit, but the only "real" scares come in these retarded dream sequences. And they're not even real so fuck it.
Imagine how cheap these films are to make. That's why it's so lucrative. All you need to do is rent a creepy soundstage and hire a b-list actress and a couple kids. Add in a bunch of jumpscares and a creepy sound track and BOOM. 30 million dollar profit on an 8 million dollar budget, if that.
Horror has sucked for well over a decade. Movies, TV, and books. There's some pretty good podcasts ns such, but those are already getting few and far between.

The turning was at most 5/10 but it was fun to watch Dreamkatcher was shit I watched the lodge yesterday, in a sense it's just home alone for adults 6/10

Pushing mid 40s seen many horror movies. But last decade and half most sucks. The Descent was one of the last really good horror movies ive seen.

I cannot get over the fucking doublle-dream-sequence-wakeup that BOTH those movies did. That's got to be the fastest way to diffuse tension. Like "Fuck it, anything you see on screen could be fake. BOO!" Cheap crap.
Ik I didn't like it either but it is what it is I hate that she's in every "scary" movie these days
Charles Fisher
Whats bad is i have never heard of these 2.
Connor Morris
Nothing is weaker than a dream sequence fakeout.
