Still stewing over this from 2 days ago. I am a health care provider and recently had a very uncomfortable visit with a new male patient who made multiple inappropriate remarks, repeatedly insisted I “examine his junk” with no medical issue there and generally made me and the scribe in the room incredibly uncomfortable. When I brought it up during our provider meeting the next day the general response was “maybe if you would wear less makeup it wouldn’t happen”. I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say... I do take care of myself, come to work well-groomed and with what I think is a natural appearing makeup routine (blush, mascara, maybe some subtle eyeshadow...no lipstick - why am I even justifying this?!) The longer I think about this the angrier I get - so it’s my fault/responsibility that these guys think it’s ok to make sexual comments during a medical exam? My mascara and blush justifies being harassed? What the hell?
