The history of the world is decidedly unforgiving to invaders, at least in the long run. The Roman Empire exists no more. Nor the Spanish conquests. Nor the British Empire. Nor the Third Reich (which had a listed shelf life of 1000 years). Nor the Soviet Union.

Controlling vast amounts of territory where you're not wanted consumes the hell out of resources. Americans are soft, but China would still have to garrison most of our country. It would leave them perilously unable to fend off a third party belligerent. Eventually, it would simply become too costly for China to keep us. Culturally and racially, there are no strong ties of kinship between us and the Chinese, so they couldn't hope to win us over with kindness. We would resent them their entire stay here.
