I hate reddit. I've been casually using it for about 4 years. Its the upvote system that is the worst. It doesn't promote (it actually punishes) opposing opinions, which all tend to be very left leaning.
The opposing opinions isn't much of a problem outside of the big subs. The big ones suck anyways, there's no reason to stay there. The biggest problem with the upvote system is that it pushes familiar content over new content. Recognization gets rewarded with one click, no processing required. New content would have to be examined, you'd have to think about it, so it gets ignored. As a result, the same garbage gets pushed up again and again, month after month, year after year. Ten years later they still have the same memes, the same jokes.

Yeah but we got (sage goes in all fields)

Try expressing a pro-leftist/pro-feminist/pro-lgbtq/pro-socialist opinion implies this site and try and tell me again how it’s not a circle jerk cesspool of intolerance of differing opinions.
Isaiah Nelson
The porn is better.
Thomas Young
reddit sucks, the karma system makes users clickbait and fake stuff in order to gain it, if you have a controversial opinion, it gets downvoted and your comment will be at the bottom hidden, your post gets removed if it violates the endless ammount of rules. there is no real freedom of speech in reddit and it has got too mainstream
Liam Young
The Yas Forums circlejerk is pretty bad, but I think it's mostly because of a few retards with nothing to do but spam all day. Any interesting thread then gets shouted into oblivion with their 1000+ spam image folder and ever same spam text. If those asswipes fucked off we could have real discussions here.
Brandon Edwards
it's hard to tell but yes, post what you want it's definition of Yas Forums
Ian Baker
because you can do it, you might get 100 replies saying to kill yourself, but you can say it on reddit you get *moderator removed this comment*. If you wanted to summarize reddit in one sentence that would be it
Brayden Perry
Outside of the clearly specialized subs, you don't. Sure, r/the_donald will remove your pro-communism post and r/communism will remove your pro-trump post, but you saw that coming, and that's actually moderation as intended. You're going against the explicit purpose of the board. In the "big tent" subs, you'll probably catch a few downvotes and end up in controversial, but that's it.

>we have upvotes and down votes that make you a slave "gibe me up vote"
Oliver Phillips
No, the porn on Reddit is better. By a factor of many
Evan Brown
It better be, "content aggregator" is the one thing reddit is made for.
Landon Hill
Or you pay no attention to it. You’re creating your own problem and then blaming anyone else?
Zachary Cruz
You’re retarded. Go against the rules of the board , your content will get removed . B also has this. Make a post right now requesting pictures of 13-17 yo girls and see if you get “muh censored”
i mean fake threads where white knights can do their job i'm not here for porn but if i post there "nigger" i will got mute but also i can post loli, gore etc. thats fucked up
Cameron Hughes
Kill yourself faggot
Cameron Rodriguez
Why do people do this obviously shit bait
Matthew Thomas
Reddit and anonymous image boards serve two different purposes entirely. One is a hive of various hug boxes, where sure, you may find alright content for what you're looking for, but if you ever speak out of line it'll get removed. People are also encouraged to interact with some communities to build 'good boy points' so they feel they're superior or important based off karma.
Meanwhile Yas Forums is a hate machine. You can post anything you want, however you want. If you go against the grain you'll get shit on, but at least you 'can' go against the grain here. User identity is also not a thing. Barring tripfags, you don't really build any influence by posting here, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you like to interact with communities. Usually bad since people like attention and building social standing. But it offers different kind of content because of that and generally having free reign to post whatever you want.
So, for your points; >"we don't tolerate hate speech" The majority of reddit allows hate speech against some alt-right groups, and no one bats an eye. Not that I think that's a bad thing, but food for thought. >we have upvotes and down votes I'd argue this is a good thing. It encouraged circle jerking. While Yas Forums also has circlejerking of a kind, it's not at the heart of the site like it is on Yas Forums. >there are specific subreddits you can join to talk to other people I honestly don't see how this is relevant. I can talk to others here just as well. >we create all the memes. every meme you see first came from reddit In modern times, yeah probably, I'll give you that. Yas Forums used to be a great meme generator, but it's not really anymore. That said, diamond in the rough posts are still great here and generally include more dark humor, which I personally appreciate.
Josiah Collins
>like it is on Yas Forums. Really should've proof read my own post before hitting submit. Oops.
Luis Harris
because people fall for it
Lucas Wood
>User identity is also not a thing. User idendity is actually fairly low on reddit as well. There's a few people that get recognized because they have their thing they always do, but it's pretty rare. Yeah, people have accounts, but no one bothers to remember those accounts. It's not like twitter where followers are a central theme.
>we don't tolerate hate speech yeah? and what about 99% of people shitting on chinese and muslim people all time? every day there's a new post in popular about how some guy in a foreign country ate an animal and suddenly everyone is "fuck chinese people." fuck off your moral high ground, at least Yas Forums doesn't pretend to be not undiscriminatory.
Leo Brooks
Just because others don't associate posts with users very often, doesn't mean it doesn't influence those who post in the first place. When you socialize in a group with identities attached, people want to seem as 'good' as possible to fit into the groups and build standing within those groups. This is normal, and it's how normal social interactions tend to work. To that end, you'll tend to try to fit the mold of the place you're posting in and better arrange your posts and content to earn more karma and get more comments.
Yas Forums does still do something similar socially, where people will adjust their shitposting for more (you)s, but barring the more popular boards which is just filled to the brim with constant shitposting, it helps encourage the smaller boards to have more diverse content.
>and what about 99% of people shitting on chinese and muslim people all time? You need to understand that hate speech is only a problem when it targets people.
