Extenuating circumstances, honesty with authority, first offense, judge sympathy, etc are all factors beyond serving as an informant for a reduced sentence. Armed robbery is also tiered--less severe offenses get less time. Is the victim alive? What was the value of items taken? Was the offender in a right state of mind?
There are a lot of things that factor in to sentencing. One year in jail/prison is the minimum sentence for armed robbery, btw.

If you find some, make sure it doesn't belong to somebody first, if they say they are "Giving it to you" clarify that it is free, if not tell them no thanks. It's kinda lose/lose anyway but if you stand your ground you won't have any problems
