China welded people into their homes, so it makes sense that the curve would be less steep. Western countries haven't taken such drastic steps. That said, I don't necessarily believe China's numbers. Nor do I believe America's, because Trump is incompetent and is only interested in keeping the official numbers down.

China's figures aren't currently trustworthy, but they also have the ability to go to way more extreme measures to control spread than any western country can or will do.

China aren't testing as widely as they should either, as they've 'decided' things are under control and won't allow anything to disprove that.

Yes, the difference though is that Trump only controls one very obviously biased arm of the media in the US. In China basically all media is controlled by the state. So while Trump just lies constantly to try to persuade there are ten media sources in-nation calling him out on it, whereas when China lies there are zero in-nation sources calling them out on it.

In the US you have to evaluate the news you read and decide to what degree its propaganda / misinformation and to what degree it's actual news. News or figures from China are always out and out lies.

The numbers are wrong in every fucking country. Most countries aren't going to invest in test post mortem just so that they get a more accurate data during a crisis, so they either count every single death that hasn't been diagnosed before as corona or not corona.
