A 7% tip is most places isn't unreasonable. In a US context, some states allow tipped workers to be paid less than the minimum wage (which is completely insane IMO) as long as the difference is made up in tips. That's essentially a customer subsidy for the employer, which I don't agree with. Tips should be handed out based on performance, not obligation.

There's absolutely no reason I should pay 300-400% markup on food, 10% sales tax, a mandatory $6 delivery fee if its delivery, then on top of all that pay another 15% so that the company can get away with paying them less than minimum wage. Even the markup on the food should be way plenty to take care of the difference

Again, in a US context, that's how a tip is calculated here. Living in California where waiters get at least the minimum wage, I don't agree with this tip policy. I tip based on the level of service provided. No shame in that.
