I've been making these kinds of porn "banners" / strips, and I think they're really hot. They can really get your imagination going, and making them can be fun too because you need to find good angles and you have to decide what to show, and stuff like that.

It began as a bunch of banners for my homepage, and I'm OCD, so I like to have everything very organized, hence 800x200. I'm a bit of an autist, and a massive part of the appeal is the consistency in the dimensions!
No, the chan banner size (at least for the chans I frequent), tend to be 3x1 (usually 300x100 px), but I think making it wider can make it more interesting because you have to think about what you want to show a bit more. It's personal preference.
Sometimes I also make more than one from one picture.

Part of the appeal is also having to really choose what is going to be seen, and I think having just a thin strip to work with can work really well for that. If I had something like a 2:1 it would be too easy to show all the good bits at once, and it'd defeat the point, I think.
