with 15-20 years worth of time, and another shitty trilogy of films in the books I must ask, were the prequels really that bad?

Episode 1 was fine (pod racing sequence was a bit long). Episodes 2 and 3 were trash. The Anakin-Padmé dialogue was the worst thing I've ever seen.

Phantom Menance only sucked because of Jar Jar and and an overabundance of childhood fancy. 2 and 3 were much more densely packed with pleb filler and directed in a way so to appeal to children.

outside of the stupid romance shit the rest of 2 was decent and 3 was pritty good

>were the prequels really that bad?
Yes, they were abominations unto the Lord. Star Wars has been fagged so many times the last 20 years that in my mind the original release trilogy and the pre-prequel expanded universe is all that exists. Anything else is stupid gay fanfiction.

>3 was pritty good
The end of 3 was good, but the beginning was stupid.

>Jar Jar
There was nothing wrong with Jar Jar. He was just a C3PO(0?) replacement.

Yes you stupid zoomer.

I personally liked episodes 2 and 3.

Be sure not to romanticize them because you were younger when you saw them. They probably suck way more than you think now.

If you watch the clone wars and can get the animation you will realize it wasn't the plot/characters that were bad- just the writing.
Episode 1 has some redeemable parts but overall not that great. Better than most of the new stars wars films.
Episode 2 was irredeemable.
Episode 3 was half awesome half bad/boring.

The new films are no good except for the solo movie... that's it. Move on with your life star wars is dead. If you need new content that fills everything you want in star wars watch the clone wars series and have your star wars itch filled. Its awesome and made me rethink that star wars could be awesome if written better

No they were fine. Star wars fans are just the most fickle nerds on the planet. If they would have just shut the hell up then we could have gotten sith lord jar jar

He did not follow to tone of Star wars. C-3PO wasn't slapstick at all. He was hysterical because it was intelligent and representive of the science fiction genre. Having a nigger alien is a waste of compelling screen time, and is there for kids to laugh at.

All star wars is and ever was was a pot of fanservice.
Han solo - Space cowboy/Bad boy
Obi Wan - Old mentor/Persecuted Knight
Yoda - That weird pedo wizard
Leia - Stronk princess obviously
Luke - The farm boy who finds the knight saves the princess and has secret powers that are op.
Darth vader - Evil wizard turns out to be good in the end
Palpatine - the real bad guy behind the curtain because darth vadar grows on you

I actually like them more now, but I like the overly detailed political stuff of the republic and the senate, so your mileage may vary.

Conn iggulden does a decent book series on rome.

the first two were aids, the third one is passable enough to be the fourth best star wars "episode" but that's not saying much.

Yeah that's metal as fuck. Fuck non-epic epic space operas

Noted. though I'm an ADHD spaz and have a hard time reading for long periods of time. hell I can't even binge watch TV my attention span is so bad. but if I get my shit together that's on the list now.

Can't tell if joking or not.
There's quite a few that would've been good for the screen but nothing will hit a demograph like star wars.
Plus the TOYS they can sell. That's why there's so much shit in star wars now. It's literally like ptcg or yugioh.

the opening is solid to the middle is a beat weak yea

exept we also had c3po in the first movie

Star Wars also has really good designs, like the most popular droids and Yoda, and a lot of good ideas like lightsabers.

I can read a book a day now from 0 my whole life.
I learned quickly you just need the jist of most of it.
I don't need to understand a tree is pretty through a whole paragraph.
If it's a good author they'll tell you, it was a beautiful tree with x colors and that's it. I don't need to know how the leaves swayed or such so i skip.
What i did was i read until my mind was numb and because i was suicidal i just kept reading. One day my mind stopped getting numb.
Now i have short vision though.

They did explain how the empire started, so I guess they were alright, but the newer movies by Disney were far worse in my opinion.

The animatronics were top tier for it's time i agree but lightsabers were hardly a star wars thing.
As i said, the biggest success they achieved was somehow combining every fantasy and sci fi trope ever written and combining them in a way that people said "Oh wow, this has NEVER been done before"
It's like neon genesis fags. Mecha is mecha at the end of the day even if you throw in some gore-porn, teen angst, existential crisis' or ecchi.

>lightsabers were hardly a star wars thing.
You wrote that shit. They implemented that shit, if not engineered it flawlessly. It plus the force are why star wars is so fucking lucrative and dynamic in an understandable and selling way also spaceships

that's the point it was a sci-fi transition of the classic western

Lightsaber & the force?
Magic you mean. Or like leelas arm thingy.
Either way it's just every popular fantasy, scifi and western rolled into one.
My point being, none of it was original and none of it is good inherently.
Even the whole plot is just the usual roman stuff.

a closer comparison would be the chi used in some kung fu films

in the starwars movies the force isnt magic but just a fact of the universe like gravity

star wars fucking sucks

Episode 1 and 2 were laughably bad and its incredible they are defended now.

Yeah. When you think about it the circumstances surrounding the Clone Wars make no sense.

if you ever managed to find a woman and have a kid, and that thing grew up to be less of a disappointment than you, it wouldn't make you any less of a worthless sack of shit.
hope that helps :)

The force was never sold as magic though, everybody thought it was a metaphysical/religious thing, which is what made it so groundbreaking, but turned out to be midichlorians. Star Wars have the most original designs possible. Like star destroyers or hoth shit or fucking Yoda people still care about him. Jedi Robes were surely inspired or borrowed by something but it is so interesting in how it is the fabric of what makes star wars cool. Darth Vader's helmet is also so iconic it deserves mention.

>magic but just a fact of the universe like gravity
OOF
In any fantasy, MAGIC is a universal law.
As for chi? Chi is magic or it's just nerve signals depending on the context. Like real life is just kung fu versus films being wuxia etc.
Even the midichlorians is an old idea.

>The force was never sold as magic though
Eh no. Vadar is accused of wizardry in the first films or jedis are i can't remember.
>Star Wars have the most original designs possible.
OOF no
Jedi order = Knightly orders/Monk warriors/Wizard school

Mandalorians - Roman helmets dude, or greeks if you prefer, hell we can go back to akkadians and sumerians if you want.

Yoda - little green alien is totally original, as is the vague philosphical laughing buddha mentor.

The imperial fleet is based off of ww1 and ww2. Except the walkers, that was pretty dope but still unoriginal.

The midichlorians is japanese as fuck.
