Yas Forums reached it's cultural apex about 2008-2012, but consistently still felt somewhat decent until about 2016.

Yas Forums is the most famous imageboard on earth, and pretty much the entry point to anyone who wants anything other than mainstream social media, so it attracts the largest number of bottom of the barrel, low quality, low effort posters. These posters had altered the culture so much that they've watered down what little quality was able to exist before 2016 - and even that was pretty terrible. Discord, youtube content aggregators and recyclers all made sure that literally everyone knows Yas Forums culture but only as artifacts, as copies of copies, without the original context or meaning. The 'alt-right' was memed into existence and literally absorbed many individuals who otherwise might have continued to think independently. It's trash but there are comfier places to go.

it's been like that for a while. /b has been very much not random for a while and the monetization of memes helped kill it. Any interesting post that use to be on /b back in the pre 2010/11 days can be found on a polished dedicated website/account nowadays. Then 2016 came about and things got even more fucked with all these new cookie cutter posts (race bait, traps, pol crap, cuckery etc) I left for a while, and came back to find it worst.
