The definition of a technological singularity is that it leads to an unknown. How do you prepare for something nobody have any idea what it is?
The generation with the greatest leap in societal and technical changes would be those born 1900-1925 or so. They have seen extreme changes in politics, warfare, medicin, morality, radio and telephone, computers, TV and a lot more. They couldn't imagine nor prepare for the world of 2010 and beyond.

The terminator idea of a computer suddenly becoming aware without that happening before isn't realistic. We will have noticed AIs with the intelligence of children before that and have time to prepare. Designing AIs with interlocks that stops certain actions plus having AIs just to detect violations of those interlocks is one approach.
