Staying in your house isn't meant to make it go away, it about flattening the curb slowing down and reducing the amount of cases so hospitals don't get overwhelmed and reduce the amount of people getting it at once. A vaccine won't take forever, it should be ready by the end of the year.

The vast majority of hospitals are not only not overwhelmed they're firing people. If this keeps up until June we're going to have to fire about 800k medical workers last I read. Most smaller doctors offices will close too. This is not sustainable for more than another 2-3 weeks in most places.
