Do you ever wish you had been an adult in the 80s?

Do you ever wish you had been an adult in the 80s?

Why or why not?

It's hard to consider giving up the instant gratification of the modern Internet, but perhaps the world would be easier to deal with when there are so many limitations.

for instance, i graduated high school in 1995. My friends and I weren't cool, but we would drive 15 miles to go to mall and taco bell and meet cute girls from other towns who had no idea we weren't cool

People used to chat with strangers more often, before the 2000s.

I was a kid in the 80s. It was great.

me too, but it was kinda neutral for me. the one thing i loved was early MTV

BECAUSE THE CRIME RATES WERE SKY HIGH, HOLY SHIT.

Cartoons, music, movies, video games, board games, toys, hanging out with friends. BMX bikes, etc. It was just a fun time. People were happy.

What are you doing right now, user?

>tfw no voicemail means you had no choice but to sit by your phone and wait for friends to call

>tfw no ATMs meant you only had a one hour window after work at best to get your paycheck or the weekend was ruined before it began

He obviously meant in the real word. Where small talk could turn into friendships. The people you meet here are instantly forgotten.

Calling a girl was fun too. You just knew her dad was going to pick up the phone.

While pinball was bitchin, arcades didn't really start to be awesome until we hit the early 90s.

What board games didn't actually suck in the 80s?

post related retro pics ITT

Well, I played Ghost n Goblins a lot when I was a kid. Bubble Bobble and some Sega classics too, but I think they were more expensive because of the cool cabinets. Don't remember any other cool arcade games. The first Street Fighter sucked hard.

Monopoly, Risk, Hotel, etc. Don't know user, I had fun with all of those.

Mine was a C64. I enjoyed it back then, but unlike NES, I would never play one of my old C64 games ever again.

when i was in college the professor ruined Monopoly forever for me by pointing out how the game is actually about humiliation.

I'd forgotten about Ghosts n' Goblins.

I guess my childhood experiences with boardgames were wildly different. Fuck it, at least we had playing cards.

>when i was in college the professor ruined Monopoly forever for me by pointing out how the game is actually about humiliation.

You could already tell, there were some assholes trying to ruin the fun for future generations.

imagine being alternative back then

when i was in 7th grade in 89, this was the coolest look one could have.

Ghost n Goblins was GOAT. It was the first time I saw someone get so crazy mad, that he started hitting the cabinet like a retard. He broke it and it took a while to fix them.
Rastan was also GOAT with those sprites and music.

What board games did you play? The only shitty one I remember was the Real Ghostbusters' one. It took longer to build the whole crap than actually playing it.

Anyone who played Monopoly with older siblings could tell you that. That game has been on my shit list since I was 10.

Moore's Law

Come on, it just showed you that in order to win, you had to be very aggressive at the beginning. First round (or two) decided the rest of the game.

If you're into that style you should watch Richard Linklater's "SLACKER" good movie

Monopoly, Snakes & Ladders, other generic board + marble games, Backgammon, and Scrabble .

I actually learned to love the latter two, but man... could not enjoy Monopoly.

We had the older generation's games for the most part.

Also count the money the banker gives you, and learn to read the rules or get fucked. Valuable life lessons.

lots of marijuana was smoked that night

one of my first memories in life that i actually vividly remember is going to mcdonalds as a 2 year old in 1979 and having McNuggets

Okay, Snakes & Ladders IS boring. The rest is meh,no wonder you're not a fan.

What about chess? That one is always great.
