Yesterday, I would have described myself as happily married. Today, I overheard my wife telling someone on the phone how we had been married "so long, over 30 years, oh god for AGES, it's been so damned long..." It was not a happy statement.
I would have told you it was like it was only yesterday when we met, when we first kissed, when we put on those rings... Yesterday, I would have said that.
Today, my heart is broken and there is a sharp pain in my chest and I can barely breathe and I don't know how this came as such a surprise to me. I thought we were happy. I thought SHE was happy. But it was only "so damned long".
I don't think there's really a question here, I guess I just needed to say it out loud. I think maybe it's time I checked out.

Oh, I'm not joking. Did you know that there's a safety built into the handle of these things? Apparently it presses naturally when you grip it correctly, so that it can't be accidentally fired by just a trigger-press. But now I feel how the little rocker in the back of the handle clicks over when I press it just right with my middle finger. We're all good!
