Yeah because going to the moon, quantum mechanics, fusion reactors, flight, etc is really just combining blocks or hot glue or herpy derpy.
Go away idiot.
crafting something new you invented =/= building something your genes tell you to larger than yourself
Humans are just narcissistic. Like to view themselves as something more than they are. It's that blind arrogance that has drawn a line between us and other animals.
Sorry but the only difference between humans and animals are the capabilities.
They have a character, can think and make use of things. Different types of animals are just differently capable at these things. The hardware and software in their capabilities are defined by the genes. Adjustment is only possible within the limitations that allows.
For example some animals don't realize the image in a mirror is them, others do. Some think an object is gone when you put something over it to hide it, others will still expect it there and so on.
ok boomer
No difference between a concrete box and a stick nest. Both temporary habitats. Can make all the intricate shit we want. We're still dumb animals dictated by chemical release and genetics. We just as primitive. Only we hold outselves in a higher light because we fill our lives with useless inventions to temporarily satisfy our chemical levels. Whatever you pull from the Earth, will always go back.
I expected as much. /b has gone to shit with all these millennials.
>most successful animal in the world
>preys on everything
>preys on the entire fucking planet itself
>creates new things with absolutely no natural equivalent
>highest stamina of any land animal in the world
>highly developed vision
>best at tool use, period
>Literally fucking threatening the rest of the universe outside its planet with colonization and conquest
>"just an animal"
>Whatever you pull from the Earth, will always go back.
>voyager probes
In that case, the capabilities humans possess over other animals is far too egregious to dismiss, as they evidently mean the difference between a placid life as an ape thing and knowing everything in the universe that makes you depressed and scared, being jaded because of that, committing creative sin more horrific than any animal could ever imagine, and posing a Singularity threat to the universe and the planet you grew up on.
Fucking got me there didn't you
Prime example of narcissism.
yeah except it's not narcissism because all of it is true
shortselling humans and their power is actually extremely dangerous because it doesn't recognize how easily we can fuck the planet up
we need to know our strength before we abuse it
It literally is though? Just because it's more complicated doesn't mean it isn't crafting? Put 3 sticks together and a tarp and you can make a shelter, put a fuck load of them together and you can make a hut, even more you can make a house, even more makes a mansion.
Just because it's more complicated doesn't mean what you're doing is different.
Same species of bird and yet they all build unique houses
We could only end ourselves. Life would continue. Difference between me and you. You: life = humans
Me: life = conscious beings.
We've only walked this Earth not even a fraction of its exitence. Even if we deface the surface, it will return to a habitable state inevitably with or without humans.
"hurr durr hoomin smart so we nut aminal becuz animol nawt smart"
Someone failed biology. Humans are animals, just like every other living thing that isn't a plant.
Haha. I didn't bother arguing that. This person is likely baiting.
>implying you made any part of it
>"Both wild and captive elephants are known to create tools using their trunk and feet, mainly for swatting flies, scratching, plugging water-holes (so the water doesn't evaporate), and reaching food that is out of reach"
Underated post
I know that, what I'm saying is that humans do shit that no other animal can literally even imagine. It is foolish to look at humans as "just" another animal because of that. We are are planetary civilization and we are on the brink of creating new forms of life and spreading beyond Earth, something that no other life form EVER in its history has ever done. We are an anomaly.
No, life to me is anything that evolves and reproduces and moves in a deliberate way.
Besides, your central point here it blatantly false. We could easily end Earth permanently within the next 500 years if we wanted to, if not now. Look at Venus and the concept of runaway greenhouse effects. Look at Grey Goo scenarios.
Well. Ever thought that the water of meteorites and asteroids could harbour life? Planetary collision =millions of fragmented rocks with various organisms sent into deep space only to collide with other planets thus infecting it with "alien" life. Maybe that's how we started. I mean, that's how we did start..
Perhaps Earth was the originator of panspermia in the past? We'll know if we find Earthlike biochemistry on exoplanets one day.
Humans do hold a lot of power. But in the grand scheme of things, they're nothing. We are only a threat to ourselves.
The one reason I wish I was immortal. This universe is honestly fascinating.
Humans are different from all other animals in that we are capable of abstract and symbolic thought and creation e.g. complex language, music, literature, etc.
We were less than a fraction as powerful as we are now when we first starting having complex, language-based thoughts. Sure, we are nothing to the universe even right now, but the sheer amount of exponential growth we've done in an extremely short amount of time relative to the Universe is honestly extremely fucking terrifying to me. We have gone from fiddling with sticks to contemplating interplanetary expansion in just 20,000 years. What will do do with another 20,000 years? Let alone billions?
We're like the guy who teleports behind you and says it isn't personnel.
>all of it is true
>highest stamina of any land animal in the world
Retard
I do see your view. We have changed so much in almost no time at all. Kinda frightens me. We could burn ourselves out so damned easily. Then it'd be like we was never even here.
We lack the data to claim that we are an anomaly in the universal scope. For all we know we could have been a genetic experiment of an alien species or our entire planet could have been seeded by ayys we would need to examine life on other planets to make educated guesses as to how special or anomalous we are in the grander scope.
In terms of us "preying on the planet" I'd like to remind ppl that there once was a tiny group of microorganisms that figured out how to gain energy from sunlight via photosynthesis. The small drawback was that the process created highly toxic waste. What followed was a population explosion of said lifeforms followed by the largest extinction event ever caused by any species past and present.
Those creatures were cyanobacteria
The toxic waste was oxygen
The extinction event was called the great oxygen catastrophe
All higher animals exist purely because of this event
We humans did diddly sqat in terms of "damage" compared to those guys
Nature doesn't give a fuck
The planet doesn't give a fuck
Life finds a way
Humans are animals.
I know what you mean, but plx get your facts straight. We're a mammalian species, belonging to the order of primates and the family hominidae. We're separated from the other hominidae mostly by our obvious aquatic specialisation, bipedal gait and small mouth.

We actually win these races sometimes. Sure the horse takes most of the matches, but there are dozens and dozens of contestants of both species and there are plenty of human competitors who end up ahead of several horses in the race.
TL;DR we actually stand up to horses in endurance races
Another brain has entered the chat.
Welcome
Chimps will rape and maim babies, murder entire opposing tribes for fun and tear small animals apart.
Ducks procreate mainly through group rape, and will fuck anything with a hole in it.
There are complete orders of wasps that procreate solely by placing eggs in live babies of other species and let their own young eat themselves out of the living host. Humans are not alone in being horrible.
>aquatic specialization
>"mostly by"
Aren't we most distinct by our sweating ability, intelligence and endurance though? To other apes?
You really need to read up on persistence hunting.
We humans can quite literally persue any land based animal till they die of exhaustion. Takes no weapons, no tools and all you have to do is follow the animal at jogging speed.
Don't know why people view it as horrible. It's humbling to me. Life is spectacular. Especially with the food chain.
We are much worse than any of that. Somewhere up the line of history we've probably tortured infants for days on end. We know for a fact we've tortured some people, entire groups of people, for years on end. No other animal in the world can understand evil and cruelty to the extent we can. We are simply too wise and jaded from our wisdom relative to them for them to compete with us in our sin.
What if said animal is not as dumb as expected and kills unarmed, delicately fleshy, blood bag human so it doesn't have to out-do our stamina?
(Fun fact, humans are actually near the bottom of the food chain because we rely on agriculture)
We're not the only animal to kill/torture just for fun.
I'm not saying we are, I'm just saying I'd rather be tortured by a chimp than a human that knew what they were doing.
