It was an GOOD game, solid 7.5 out of 10.
The things that keep it from greatness are
1.) Having to play in an extremely ridged and “Follow the path” type of way. To where you cannot use certain weapons that would destroy demons in a (what would this weapon REALLY do against flesh and bones way) but in Eternal barely phases them unless you're using weapons the way dev’s want you to use them, and not the way you want to use them.
2.) The necessity to use glory kills for health and the chainsaw for ammo, it can be argued that it keeps the tempo of the game up. However it also limits the ability for the player to make their own decisions about engagements, you HAVE to do what the dev’s want you to do (because the dev’s don’t want to have weapons that the player doesn’t use in the game)
3.) The Marauder is just plainly a bad enemy, meant to stop your momentum.
His shield should not be an impenetrable barrier. Also the BFG should take him out in one blast.
My main complaint is that the developers just seem to have their fingers in the combat system to much. They limit your choices in combat, which is not always a bad thing, but in the case of me playing as the “rip and tear” DOOM Slayer that is legendary and canonically wipes enemies out with ease.. It just seems like he shouldn’t even need weapons, Much less be solely dependent on them to win. In DOOM 2016 Weapons were just more convenient, in Eternal it’s “use this weapon specifically how I WANT you to use it, or die”
