Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. DWI.
Food was awful. Best thing was red beans on Mondays. People still fought over that shit though. Dunno the company. The food apparently used to be a lot better, but budget cuts ya know.
I was stuck in a pod of 24 people, 12 racks of two each. Had a tiny TV. Played a lot of chess. They occasionally let us outside to play basketball. Rarely.

Some people got the stuffing beat out of them. There was one white kid that just got fucked up by a group of people in another pod. There were windows so you could see into the three other pods. Ours was fairly lucky. Saw about 3 fights in ours but nothing terrible.
I was a peacemaker who got along with just about everyone. I was a Marine (kinda out of shape now lol) but I was the smartest person in there so I schemed my way through. I was the closest thing they had to Wikipedia to settle things.
People respected me because I was nice but firm. I wasn't in there to fuck anyone over.
I read a lot of good books in there and was the library too. By the end of my time in there, I got the TV remote to play Jeoprady! every day at 6 PM. This was understood. A small group would congregate and watch me crush trivia.
I actually sold my old Xbox and TV yesterday to someone I met in jail. Kek. I was surprised.
Some people had it a lot rougher than me. I also had my parents put money on books for commissary every few weeks and they'd send me books.

The majority of conflict in jail is over food trays and the TV remote. Remember that if you go to jail. Don't get involved in spades, that card game. Thats probably 3rd on that list.

I smoke a lot of weed, but quit since I'm on parole. There was weed in there that people would occasionally smuggle in, but even though I was offered it, I declined. I didn't want to be stoned in jail. Too depressing. I drank one time since I got out of jail. Wild Turkey 101 the night before I went into rehab. I dunno why I did it. Didn't do much for me that time. So I've drank once in the past 6 months or so.
In the actual upstate prison system, mojo is the big drug apparently. Fuck that.
