Get it? She thought she was so smart but she dropped out right away!
Nice one.
>Slow down I'll tell you when
>I may never walk again
(That piano fill kills me everytime)
Any Major Dude from Pretzel Logic.
>When the demon is at your door, in the morning it won't be there no more
Classic
My Rival is always worth another listen

Do It Again.
Rikki Don’t Lose That Number
>The Cuervo Gold
>The fine Columbian
>Make tonight a wonderful thing
did he:
1. get smashed to get over how annoying it was dealing with a nineteen year old
2. get smashed to get over the awkwardness
3. use the cocaine to attract her in the first place
4. get her smashed to take advantage of her
Literally listening to pretzel logic on vinyl right now.
>drink scotch whiskey all night long and die behind the wheel
drinking and driving is cool!!
Cocaine isn’t going to make any 19 year old less annoying that’s for damn sure.
I also heard that Colombian at that time would have been referring to a type of Hugh quality weed.
The fine Columbian actually refers to weed in that song.
nope, Hey Nineteen was 1980 and only one thing was coming from Colombia at that point...
colombian, idiots.
The album was recorded before 1980, and cocaine didn't start coming out of Colombia until later in the 80s.
Probably #2. I remember reading that Columbian was a pot reference and not coke, but I might have it wrong.
I remember the thirty-five sweet goodbyes
When you put on the Wolverine up to Annandale
>Is there gas in the car?
>Yes there's gas in the car
>I think the people down the hall know who you are
From my fave (as of this moment) SD song
Bonus pts if you know the rl story associated with the first two lines
Razor Boy. Tear up every time I hear it.
California, tumbles into the sea
That'll be the day I go back to Annandale
Sorry, I don't usually remember how to spell shit hole countries
Underrated track overall.
BROADWAY DUCHESS
McDonald kills it on that track.
The whole song is about Owsley Stanley, soundtech for the Grateful Dead and THE hookup for LSD on the West Coast. Escaped a raid in a car, ran out of gas, did 5 years.
I'm old enough to remember when Colombian referred to high quality cannabis.
And on Time Out of Mind. "Tonight when I chase the dragon!"
I wonder if that Santa-lookin fuck knew he was singing about horse.
Something to do with a drug dealer friend of theirs if I recall
Is Fagen's solo stuff allowed?

go to bed Dad
Only if it's off the Nightfly
Hell yeah. Fagen is a beast. I think it was Nick Kroll who said he looks like an Orthodox Ray Charles behind the keyboards.
Favourite album is probably a tie between Gaucho and Katy Lied
Daily reminder that in 2000, after a 20 year hiatus, when Eminem performed with Elton John, at the height of the N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears era, Steely Dan took home 3 Grammys, including Album of the Year, Pop Vocal Album, and Pop Performance By A Duo, beating Beck, Eminem, Radiohead, Paul Simon, Barenaked Ladies, and Madonna.
Aja, the title track. Awesome sax and drums.
Two Against Nature is a pretty solid album.
Gaucho is solid. Good all the way through. I rotate between that and can’t buy a thrill when I’m driving. You can hear them mature musically between the two albums a lot. Can’t buy a thrill is not nearly as fluid as gaucho or aja, but has some damn good stand out tracks on it.
Favorite track right now is probably black cow.
Love your mama, love your brother
Love 'em till they run for cover
Turn the light off, keep your shirt on
Cry a jag on me
Oh Michael... Oh Jesus
You know I'm not to blame
You know my reputation for playing a good clean game
Oh Michael... Oh Jesus
I'll keep my promise when
you turn that heartbeat over again
Black Cow was a hell of a way to kick off that album. At the time, Aja was the most expensive record ever produced. And it shows.
They were absolute sticklers about their production, but yeah it was well worth it.
You can definitely hear them progress as the album's go on. I like Katy Lied because it's kind of like a turning point for the band. They go from being a small band to embracing session musicians fully. The loss of Skunk Baxter sure hurts, but with it they gain Larry Carlton and Michael McDonald who make their first appearances on Katy Lied.
Holy shit. Went to Hartford to see them. So good. My Old School was the last song. I won a bet that it would be. Inappropriately young girl dancing in row in front of me there with her parents was nice too.
I feel like Mulaney is lurking this thread
just a cute joke. I lolled
I haven’t listened to Katy Lied yet, guess that ones going into the rotation next time I’m listening to music. What would you say your favorite track is off it?
Their concert musicians use sheet music. Serious. I setup for a show they played in San Diego about 15 years ago, what a night.
