If the electricity went into that volume of water would you die? It might just be a very unpleasant shock. A toaster in a bathtub volume of water will kill you if you are submerged in the water. If you dump an electrical power station's worth of electricity into an ocean, you would need to be a mile away or something from the electricity's point of contact with the ocean and you would only feel a small shock.

That's not how AC electricity works.
The load is not dependant on the supply but on the resistance of the device. Ohms law is a triangle and the only thing the power station controls is the VA... The voltage and its loading potential
FWIW you are right. Water is a lousy conductor. Distilled water is actually a near perfect insulator. The conductive part of water is the mineral content... the impurities. If you throw a phase wire into a swimming pool the voltage drops off so quickly chances are you wouldn't even know from 20 feet away. 2 feet away would be entirely different....
