It comes down to stats. It's more likely that any given black will be a physical threat than other races. Not that it can't be dealt with, if it turns out to be the case, but it's just a pain in the ass to have to spend more attention and energy than you otherwise would on vigilance.

I know some amazing black people, but based on what I've personally observed, there's a much higher percentage of aggressive, disrespectful black people than other races. Just me, but seems like a lot of people have had the same experience. Nobody is going to waste energy unnecessarily being extra vigilant if it didn't make sense.

That, and the fundamental attributon error is likely one root of it really. We all like to believe that, given the same situation, that WE would make different/better choices. Likelihood is that we would not.

It's not universal and it's really sad for blank people who are empathetic, because humans are very adept at playing the odds in their favor to survive and therefore will always act prejudiciously based on life experience. I think the best way for "respectful" black people to thrive is to get to know people, so they're less likely to be seen in the context of anyone's overall average experience. I'm not black, but I feel really good about the positive interactions I do have.
