I genuinely believe its mental health and a general sense of alienation. The first school shooting was a teen girl with a rifle across the road. When asked why she did it her response was I hate Mondays. She had a bad homelife and seemed nihilistic at best from what I've read. As society has become more and more connected to technology people seem to feel more and more alienation. This coupled with an almost overnight shift in common society morals seems to spur on a hatred of fellow man. There is no way one can blame shootings on the 2nd amendment. Semi auto rifles have existed since before ww2 and were commonly purchased by the American public for decades. Despite all these guns being in circulation no one really went on a shooting rampage. Hell if it happened its shocked society to the core given how unheard of it was. Even in the 1980s when the Ar15 was becoming more and more popular among civilians this wasn't an issue. Tim from military arms channel recalls driving to high-school with his Ar15 in the truck to take it camping after school. The school was well aware many students did this and simply asked they lock their vehicles. And once again with this going on no one shot the place up. Given this how could it be anything else bit mental issues and the new way society functions. We don't need gun control anywhere. What we need is to seriously examine ourselves as a society and deeply question why there is this hatred driving people to go on wonton killing sprees. It won't be fixed overnight but it will in the long run be far more beneficial than passing laws to act as a little bandaid over a gaping wound.

I believe it has a lot to do with there being no escape from bullying and also the vision that everyone's life is better than yours nowadays. Teenagers who had low self esteem in the 60s could sit in their room and listen to music, do drugs, go buy beer and drink, go ride their bike, whatever be it, until they got older and realized none of that popularity contest bullshit matters anyways. Nowadays there is no escape, even people who may have a shittier life than yours can still socially influence you to believe theirs is better because they get more Facebook likes, and if you're being bullied, with cell phones and the internet there is no escape. These kids are taught from a young age to be raised by technology, so even if bullied depressed and lonely, they will continue to engulf themselves when bored in the very things that led to their depression in the first place because it's become the instinctual time passer. Therefore depressed people stay in a more constantly depressed state, and develop the mentality to take down everyone else with them. Just my 2 cents.

I would yes. I'm by no means an expert but the major occurrence in the 60s was the sexual revolution. Now that in and of itself wasn't bad but the way society handled it was. Children born to parents who wanted nothing more than a fuck, divorce becoming more acceptable and so leading to an erosion of the family unit. I would assume that the family unit becoming more and more fractured led to this nihilistic outlook that seems to be common. And as time has progressed functional families are becoming less common.
