he was a genius composer that died too soon

I don't know much about dancin, that's why I got this song.
One of my legs is shorter than the other and both of my feet's too long.

They killed that fucker.
Anyone from laurel canyon whos parents were ex military that didnt comply got killed or imprisoned.

doesnt care how people remembers him - I relate to that opinion
also he got cancer in the ass

I don't know hardly anything about him and had no interest in learning.
Wrote him off immediately as being WAY better at self-promotion than anything musical.

Fucking nested tuplets dude. Mad respect.

trips

Zappa was not much compared to Beefheart

Its pretensious schlock for fucking dorks.

he was better at making music than he was at naming children

Well, you know, Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music.

He was a conservative.

god on this earth also sober for life imagine if he had done drugs what type of music he'd make

he was great in that Monkees movie 3 second cameo

Frank is a Hero.
Changed my life for the better by a huge fucking margin.
No one will ever surpass Frank... only stand beside him, and damned few will ever reach that height.
I've known Frank's music for about forty years.
I still appreciate in my love and understanding of his music. It still grows and deepens.
Like I said, tho... a Hero.

I have an important message to deliver to all the cute people all over the world. If you're out there and you're cute, maybe you're beautiful. I just want to tell you somethin' — there's more of us UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS than you are, hey-y, so watch out.

Listened to this song on my way home from the grocery store! 1st CD in my player!

Jimmy Carl Black's the Indian of the group.

Yes, "they" gave him prostate cancer.

I tried to get into his music, but just couldn't.

But he was brilliant in the interviews I saw.

Prostate. Close but wrong

wisdom is the domain of the Wizz

; )
Thanks.

Never saw Frank in concert, nor met him socially, but the cat was like a distant mentor for me.
For a LOT of motherfuckers.

>implying drugs make people more creative.

Drugs reduce inhibition. Bad composers make more stuff that's still bad.
Good composers might continue to do well, but may get lost ion trips and lose inspiration for the music.
Fuckin' bongloaders.

!

This.

Learn More. You will see that you will also appreciate Captain Beefheart more.

> Music is THE BEST.
I agree - it is what continually makes my life worth living, when ( without it ) it might not always have been
> Tell me what you REALLY know about
Frank Zappa
First heard of him in the 1960's when there was some phenomenal competition in the broad contemporary field
(sure - I know it's very subjective!)

> and his Music.
always thought it was worth listening to even if I wasn't quite so enraptured by it, like I was with a lot of the other musical talents that were vying for dominance around that time.

I must admit, I am sad that I have not given him so much credence as he deserves, primarily because my interests have been focused elsewhere
(particularly the late Baroque era).

Truth is I would never argue against anyone who claimed he was a God-tier genius, rather I would listen to them intently and learn what I should already have known better.

Thanks. You answered what I would have answered too.

He was probably the top overall musician ever. He mastered countless instruments, a master composer, great lyricist, amazing performer, overall an artistic juggernaut

The Central Scrutinizer.....

Though he was a fairly decent performer he was a much better composer. I think that's why he was almost always being ironic, he was never good enough for his own standards so he maybe chickened out a bit by doing all of that hipster comic stuff.

it was kind of sad when he said that the reason his marriage worked so well was because he and his wife hardly ever spoke to each other.

also, SPOO ("You're jerking off in front of your amplifier, Mr Willis, and everybody knows it.")

there's that point in one of the "You Can't Do That On Stage Any More" albums where the secret word for the night was "Hi Yo Silver", and Ike Willis just would not shut up. in one song he said it every second line.

Saw his son Dweezil on one of his Zappa plays Zappa tours. It's different and I could see why people wouldn't like it at first, but I enjoy different.

It's amazing how Bobby Brown Goes Down has only become a more relevant song the older it gets.

Posting worst Beef song.

I launched the thread from Italy. As a boy I saw him live in 2 concerts. Then I started listening to the "easiest" record, that is Hot Rats. If you want to try again, here it is below. Waka Yawaka is also very nice. In this quarantine period you will find it amusing. Also listen to the others. You don't have to hurry. It must be understood little by little, then you can no longer leave it. Thanks and goodbye.

I like them all and I posted 2 examples. Who wants if you look for them. And anyway the tastes are tastes and not dictatorship.

This is epic

Sort of.

I saw him live, once. I wish I saw the other two shows in that stand.

you are what you is

Really appreciable. Thanks.

Mike Oldfield was pretty good too

Mike is underrated for sure.

His lyrics weren't amazing but his musical ability was amazing.

Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow...
Arf, she said...

As Dr. John would say, keep the music simple.
