Rent is passed due. 14 of my 22 tenants are refusing to pay rent. I still have to make mortgage payments, now overdue. This isn’t right. I am a human being that worked hard and bought rental properties so I could comfortably retire and tend to my passions. Now I could potentially lose my life’s work because of slackers who live hand to mouth and refuse to have emergency funds like responsible members of society. I have a family to feed to, why shouldn’t I get paid? Why should I subsidise other people’s shelter from my own pocket? When are property owners getting OUR bailout? It's NOT fair
I have enough emergency funds to cover five maybe six tenants not paying their rent but 14? 14! Why should I wipe out MY savings over this? Landlords are entitled to a larger check for EACH MONTH of the shutdown.

I have been dealing with this for a year OP and my tenants are in NJ. NJ has some of the worst laws in place for landlords. I can't even kick them out when the lease is up if they are caught up on payments and I have to offer them a renewal with the price not going up more than 10%. I am not a scumbag landlord - I fix anything that needs to be fixed and go through a management company.
I am having to take a loan from my 401k to cover the mortgage because of their bullshit. Been dealing with this for over a year now.

maintaining rental properties is a shitload of work and expenses. i help my landlord with a few properties. its daily and its always some shit pipe exploding or replacing apliances. or ripping up all the carpets because someone ruined them. hes not even making any profit until the mortgages are paid and he has about 10 or more tenants. being a landlord is not an easy gig like some here think, you dont get to clock out and youve gotta pay out of pocket for every expense.
