The thing. It’s from the 80s
Lake Mungo spooked the shit out of me
Martyrs (French)
Pulse (Jap)
The Grudge (American)
^^ these got me pretty good
>Lake Mungo
I'm a grown ass adult, and didn't want to walk around my own house in the dark after watching that
Some quality choices. Interesting to see you pick the American grudge over the original Ju-On
That beach scene. FUCK MEEE
Still some of the best practical effects to ever grace this earth.
Cheers, I haven't scene this one
yes, the 1982 John Carpenter version
good throwback to 80s horror, from 2016
>Andy Sixx's Eden Log
The Rite
Anthony Hopkins
Early 2010s
Also
Annabelle Creation
sci-fi horror, better the less you know before watching it
Lol same here
Dark late 80's directing style. Tim Robbins. Not gorefest but has an uncomfortable fever dream feeling to it. Watch it high.
Also agree with anyone with nice things to say about '84 the Thing
Lake Mungo had a scene that was the only one to truly scare me (not cheap jumpscares) since I've been an adult. Legit shit.
Yeah, it was actually directed by the same guy who did the original. I just thought the remake benefitted from the higher production value.
>Lake Mungo
Good narrative not scary whatsoever
I've seen this film an insane amount of times. So good.
>Watch it high
that sounds like a terrible idea lol
I expected more from the remake.
I saw the original when I was a kid - still one of the few things in movies that can gross me out
were you actually watching it and paying attention? or had it on in the background while you fucked around on your phone?
A Serbian Film
If you've never seen it, worth it. Benefits from the same feeling of hopeless isolation in space as Alien has. Sam Neil's pretty solid in it. And if you've been vibing with Doom Eternal, you'll probably enjoy the plot
Any reason why you specifically chose the American version of The Grudge instead of the Japanese one?
the 2011 wasn't exactly a remake, it was a prequel that covered what happened to the other research base before the one in 1982.
It was also originally going to have practical effects, you can find the VFX house's videos on youtube showing all the stuff they made, but the studio decided to go all CGI, and it's not nearly as good as it could have been
Finding Nemo
a good recommendation
This is why I cant fuckin stand girls under 30.
>when Yas Forums gets so young this has to be clarified
My man.
EXCELLENT choice
When it flashes back to the later scenes? Is that what you're talking about or when the camera gets close to that thing at end? I didn't find it frightening
One of the best remakes of all time.
I disagree, its the only film that has genuinely unsettled me
Okay, true. Watch it.. half high. High enough to be taken in by it a little, but not enough to get anxious.
God I wish the remake worked out. There's a cool video, forget if it's JoBlo, where they talk about how the production got throttled and fucked with by the studio
Hereditary
I fucking loved this. Can see all the inspiration Dead Space took from it.
Great movie.
Great soundtrack too.
a few I like:
Exorcist, Exorcist III
Blackwood
Hell House, LLC
Grave Encounters
The Tunnel
Kill List
Thats a damn shame.
Definitely gonna check that out, thanks.
Honestly - well done physical puppetry trumps well done cgi for me - think its the subtle differences you pick up like how the actors intereact.
Both effect types when done bad are HORRIFYINGLYY SHIT though
CGI is so offputting in it. Bad call from a film that was known for it's amazing practical effects.
Have to agree there.
Older evil dead with ash was more comedy to me.
This one's a bit fun. The effects are a mixed bag and some of the more 80s things don't hold up as well, but the shit that hits, hits. A modern relaunch done right would be interesting.
Thankye
Totally agree. It wasn't goofy but didn't take itself seriously either, and kept all the right unsettling things while being fun as hell.
The Endless

Can confirm Lake Mungo will give you the willies.
i'll second this.
So good. Have you seen Mandy?
>Kill List
You fucking legend
I haven't yet, but I think it's on one of my watchlists
>Everyone talks about lake mungo, why is it so scary? No spoiler pls
I've been waiting for a hellraiser reboot too.
Some of the wierdest surreal shit Ive seen in movies.
Brother was 9 years older both grew up early 90s - seen some shit yo.
I havent seen any in 15 years maybe - doubt theyve aged well like the old nightmare on elm street movies havent either.
don't know how many people here would like this, they'll say it's too slow or confusing, but I liked it. the soundtrack is super creepy as well
If you liked Beyond the Black Rainbow you'll dig it. Same director and very similar style.
Lol, you are new. It's a meme bro, there is no such movie.
Yes. Real psychopath vibes.
A dude where I work was pushing me to watch this one, really bad. Absolutely loved it, and a lot of other people I talked to did to. I..didn't get it so much. Some of the single shots were pretty cool, and the last third of the movie had some fun, spooky content, but it didn't really take me in, I think because all of the characters were kind of annoying and dramatic and the plot action was just exhausting. It felt like the cousin of movies like the Grudge and the Ring. I did enjoy Midsommur, though. It wasn't scary, but it had a fun feeling of dread and didn't drag too bad to watch
Amazing film. 9/10
ooo, that reminds me of Rec, the original Spanish one, not the American remake
Korean movies don't fuck around
Honestly - I hated Hereditary personally.
It felt like an art house spoof remake of something better.
Garbage.
Now that is one fucked up movie. Most disturbing ending I have ever seen.
2002 version, or Ringu from 1998, I haven't seen it in years though to remember if it holds up
Love it. I've survived a real psychopath and taxi driver really nailed it.
top tier body horror
You do realize that John Carpenter's version itself was a remake? The original movie was "The Thing from outer space "
it's A24, so it is art house, but it wasn't a parody. a lot of the bigger studio horror films feel like parodies these days, they're so cringy and cliched
Min-sik Choi.
