Gaming has lost its appeal to me...

Gaming has lost its appeal to me, am I just getting older and this is a natural part of growing up or are games just not as fun anymore?

Play Smashed Brothers.

I'm 33 now and I can say that I play significantly less than I used to. I also just don't really buy games anymore. I'm looking at getting Mount and Blade Bannerlord when it releases, and that'll be my only purchase in a year. I play Witcher 3 and Divinity OS2 mainly, and I probably get 2 or 3 hours in a week tops. Compared to easily 2 or 3 hours a day when I was younger.

Interestingly enough I played through 2/3 Borderlands 3 and stopped for no apparent reason. Cannot find the impetus to begin again.

You may just need to change the types of games you play. I can't play epic RPGs like Witcher 3 or time sinks like Destiny 2 anymore, but I love my Switch to play a little here and there when I have time.

lot of the former, bit of the latter

yea that's how it is OP your adult now time to read the paper and wait for death

I can't play games unless it is a competitive multiplayer and even then I am slowly losing interest in them. Single player games just don't give me any joy/spark when playing.

It’s tied up a little with depression too. I quit gaming for years as I went deeper into depression and eventually drugs and alcohol. When I started changing my life and found myself happier and fulfilled, the games sparked joy again. That being said, I can only enjoy online games. The competition and minuscule amount of societal connection helps. Hope your just growing and shifting and not going through any downhill times!

?????
Boderlands 3 is shit
Thats why

sounds like you need to take up alcoholism, that will solve all your problems

That's because you're a closet homosexual

I was considering buying it too. Thanks for the heads up.

Your autism is finally getting cured.

Being on Yas Forums means you’re openly a massive faggot. I doubt that’s his problem!

Bad story, half-baked jokes

pretty ok gunplay
It's not worth full price

u just suck u noob
noob shit with noob gear
gg noob bet u want a bd dildo fag noob.

i feel like once you actually get decent at a game it just gets boring and loses that joy of learning new shit for it. also miss the old league back when it was the og map. good times.

Games are way too expensive now, I hate what AAA gaming has become, and I hate that eventually your game becomes obsolete and you can't play it anymore.

34 here and I still love games. If you have a lot going on in your life games may not seem as interesting anymore.

FACTS CONFIRMED

I used to pay 50 for xbox games, 60 for 360 games, now everything comes down to 10 bucks on steam. I play every day and still haven't had to spend more than 10-15 bucks on a game in years

Ah. Your inner creativity is screaming to be released. Your body and subconscious know that you're wasting tremendous amounts of time while you're still young enough to have the energy to accomplish things in life. If you don't actually do something on your own, depression sets in and your life is basically over.
Get out and do something. Kind of hard now though, with everyone hiding. Or should be hiding.

ok, should I give Doom Eternal a shot? I ennjoyed the last one more or less.

yea sure, just finished it today.
Its a really nice game

ok going to give it a go.

it doesn't produce anything. It doesn't bring anything new , you're just being a consumer of product when you play games, just like eating. And yeah mindlessly consuming something will eventually lose it's appeal eventually.

VR has a way of bringing you back into gaming. Got my Oculus Quest a month ago and I'm enjoying the shit out of it. Gaming is different when you feel more like you're there. I feel IN the game, now just watching on a big rectangle.

just get drunk, then ______ will be fun again
you can fill in that blank with anything, including video games

I'll be turning 26 and I don't play games almost at all anymore. There are times when I'll jump on a classic or something; but I don't really game at all. I am more interested in other things.

as we get older, I think we lose control of our ability to disregard time. It's terrifying to me to think how much time I've spent gaming, but it's all I used to do!
I'm working at a job that lets me sit in a chair and fuck around for the first time in YEARS. I have been in 4th gear for the last 6 years and this week I've been in Neutral and it freaks me out.

It's age, OP and it's fine if you don't want to play games right now. Perfectly normal I think. Don't depress yourself over it.

It does lose some of it's flavor, moreso as you get older still. Lots more to do in life than gaming.

Im 34 and still love vidya, play games nearly everyday. However, i dont get hyped for games anymore. I dont really know how to describe it, but the best i can come up with is theyre too "corporate" these days. Everything is just safe, you know what to expect, there are no surprises, youve seen all of the shit before in other games. Theres too little innovation, and too much mass appeal. I mean, with dev costs how they are, I get it, but its still a shame. These days you rely on indies for niche stuff, but they just dont have the quality and polish of AA and AAA.

Definitely feels natural to me, OP. In my late 20s now, and I certainly enjoy a game every once in a while (just finished Horizon Zero Dawn recently), but I only play a game once or twice a year. Life just takes over and there are real responsibilities to take care of. When you're invested in a game, unfortunately, it can seem like work to achieve what you're trying to get done. When you've got real work to get done, it's exhausting to think of pushing yourself to do more later

try smoking weed while gaming

This. All the AAA games these days are either the 30th iteration of a franchise or so loaded with "microtransactions" that you're paying hundreds of dollars just to enjoy the halfway-enjoyable shit. These days I'm way more likely to hop on Steam and see what is getting hype from real people and if sounds fun I'll throw some money down and play for an hour, since Steam's return policy is basically "if you only play for a little bit you can return it NQA".

You've grown up

A videogame, like its name, is a game.
A man goes to a child and says, "let's play a game" the child gets excited and thinks about how to get from point A to point B.

A man goes to a sober man and says "let's play a game", the sober man will say, fuck off. Because it's another chore.

Was it just me or was horizon zero dawn fucking awful? I was so pissed off the whole time about the weak, predictable, story line that I didn't really care about the quests at all. Plus the mech hunts were repetitive and boring too. I ended up just speed running it to get through.

If anything, it's the opposite. life and lack of procrastination should make you crave games. too much games and depession will make you have no incentive to play games.

maybe youre depressed, and it's nothing to do with the game itself.

play older game that you used to enjoy
dont invest time in new games
literarly tryed all the games that could make have fun like
>csgo
>rs3
etc etc
just joined a WOW WOTLK private server and im having a blast to be honest

yeah it's more or less impossible to play games sober post-puberty. when i was a teen I was on copious caffeine while gaming, now i can't even imagine touching vidya without being good and deep into the vodka. that being said, i really enjoy it at that point.

fcked up that since im literarly falling asleep but
tldr: just play older games that you used to have fun for me per example wow wotlk private server and im having a blast

It's because you got older, and games became movies or wacky XD streamer bait.

i'm heavily invested in rs3 and enjoy it. however i struggle at arraxor and it fucks my confidence a lot, lool.

I'm with you man. I play what most would consider the "boring" stuff like Rimworld, Civ, MMOs, etc... Actually find it pretty satisfying. FPS doesn't really do it for me any more. Plus PC gaming is better than console. Nothing like being on a conference call with a customer and crafting in a mmo on my other monitor.

Social justice warrior game of the year

i used to have fun alot too but i missed the dungeons/raids/bg that wotlk had so i just joined a populated private server

>33 here agree with you work and family life get Into playing vidya I just don’t have attention span although kids do play a lot on their consoles they refuse to upgrade to PC kinda upsets me have a gaming pc in the living room that at least one of the plays memecraft on it was looking forward to doom eternal only played 10 hours over weekend and went back to war thunder bf4 been playing some
Halo with old buddies but even they agree it doesn’t have the appeal that vidya used to have when we were younger

Farcry 5 was good, fallout 4 was okay minus the stupid town building crap, witcher 3 was dope as fuck too.

That plus the free psplus games were my last 3 years of gaming

48 years old.
I still play a fair amount. It's totally replaced television for me, now that I get all my news online (bigtime news junkie). That said, I seem to only play the same games:
(1) TF2 (this old man is almost always top 3)
(2) CS:GO danger zone
(3) CIV V
The only game I'm looking forward to playing in the future is GTA V. I'm the only person on the planet not to play it (rig is too old to support the graphics at a level I'd like).
I also own CIV VI. It's not even a game, it's a work simulator. Totally boring.
Oh, I didn't play games for more than a decade, got back in in 2014. I'm so fucking old, I remember coin-operated pong.

curious to know what online mmorpg is everybody playing all i hear is either elder scroll online/wow(eww retail)/black desert online

im just playing wotlk private server

>It's not even a game, it's a work simulator. Totally boring.

Why would you be looking forward to any GTA games then? Or fucking anything made by rockstar? I bought RDR2 and took it back to gamestop after a few hours. What a fucking bore

gta v for me is one of the games that doesn't really get boring. if i'm sitting there bored out my mind and have a list of 'singleplayer' games, i pick v for it's vast freeroam.

I loved san andreas. just driving around sometimes. or flying the aircraft. I'm really looking forward to it...infact, this might be a good time.
It appears to run well on 250mx mobile graphics chips, and they're now the cheap options on notebooks...
TF2 and CS:GO run fine on a 750mx mobile.
Cheers, and thx for reaffirming that.

you obv haven't tried CIV VI. It's that bad. I've played CIV since, I and II and then V. Multiplayer, CIV 5 would be fantastic on a domination-only setting. (and with players who won't quit the minute shit happens).

i enjoyed rd2 for the story tbh but as soon as i finished it i didnt pick it back up like i did with all gta games
im another user btw

rd2, I won't have the system to handle that for years. I'm not buying a desktop ever again. Low-to mid notebooks (asus and acer)
acer swift 3 is interesting me right now

I'm 31 and enjoyed games all my life, but for the past year or so I just can't focus on anything. I think being very busy with work has had that effect, plus trying to also stay fit and keep up with a bunch of projects. Playing games just always feels like there is something else I should be doing and I can't relax.

But I always feel like I want to go back to gaming, I always enjoyed playing starcraft and other things, but right now it just feels like there is no room. Maybe I will move on completely...

idk, but i agree. i'm 26 now and can't play more than 30 mins to an hour at a time. Even wow classic couldn't keep me occupied for more than a week, maybe 2 hrs a night. Although, I've been playing THPS4 for about an hour every other day, so maybe the quality of games has decreased over time.

it's not you gaming is turning into a shitshow, where it's all about microtransactions and profit maximization.
it's not about getting people hooked by making fun games anymore. there are a few exceptions of course.

I'm just looking foward to New World

are you a NEET?
if so limiting your gaming to certain amount of hours a day will help enjoy them
if you overload yourself with games 10 hours a day they will lose their appeal quickly

>Rimworld
who considers rimworld boring?
its a highly praised game
