The constant pursuit of profit at the expense of anybody and everybody doesn't really help.
The image is that americans are so greedy to the extent they will sue you for anything they possibly can in order to extract money from you. Money is king and anybody that has less is scum worthy of exploitation.
I like america but god damn your 'profit over people' mentality scares me. You have no employment rights, you're the only country in the world to have bankruptcy over medical costs be a common thing, bribing politicians is perfectly legal. It's just scary.
I know the majority of people aren't like that but when it's all you hear about it's hard not to assume the worst.
