So, who else thinks that this pandemic is going to fundamentally change our way of life in major ways?

I am still on the this is not that bad
the panick is just here cause the boomers rule the waves
No
Do you have a middle school education? I can only assume since you do not know the severity of it. It's not just "boomers" dying. Your fatass would have problems, should you get it. Cheeto fingers.
Not sure, but iI hope it serves as a wake-up call for people to get their shit together. This is a relatively mild pandemic and to see people fighting over TP and freaking out in general means we are FUCKED when/if a nastier virus pops up.
It can have a lot of changes on our life. Manufacturing businesses might start thinking about automation to prevent their labor from being cut off like it is currently. Whereas other non-manufacturing companies will have employees work at home more often, trying to switch it from an hourly wage to salary/quota based.
Things are going to be very different until we have a vaccine. This thing isn't going away.
this wont kill me it can try if it likes
Yes, until there is a vaccine. Exponential growth, including the death rate, and there are not enough people taking it seriously.
It's going to increase the size and role of the state for decades.
In the UK we've just nationalised pay roll.
Trump is pondering a universal basic income.
>Trump is pondering a universal basic income
Not really. He wants to give taxpayers a couple checks, but nothing beyond that. He's now talking about opening everything back up for business.
I guess some factories will at least partially be returned from China and distributed more both globally as well maintaining some base capabilities in areas like Europe or North America.
A vaccine is a year away still. By then the damage is going to be done, I think.
If we look at the numbers of the cases where the virus has run its course - meaning either recovery or death - the fatality rate in Italy is at about 44% right now. We've dragged our feet about as much as Italy has, but even if we cut that number in half, that's a pretty damn high mortality rate. Especially since it has an infectivity rate of 60-80%.
Nah
One day shit is free and carless the next its panic
You are such a faggot that you are so new to the world that you think propaganda is real. Grow up faggot. This spiel will end in a month or two and life will be back to normal shittiness.
>A vaccine is a year away still. By then the damage is going to be done, I think.
It's certainly possible. I just think we're going to have waves of the virus and intermittent lockdowns for the next year or so. This is going to constantly disrupt things. It's going to affect businesses and anything that involves large gatherings for some time.
Obviously a cure or effective treatment is also a possibility. This would be the best case scenario.
The irony here is unreal. You're listening to the media and Trump saying it'll all be okay, meanwhile medical personnel that's actually out in the thick of it keep telling us this is serious and it's going to get worse. But yeah I'm sure the doctors and nurses are just propaganda machines, stay woke
Possibly, but it will likely be a Chinese companies. Most american companies want tax breaks to open something, and we can't really afford to do tax cuts and flood the market with money, along with states getting fiscally rekt by this, all at the same time.
> fundamentally change our way of life in major ways
Yeah. More people are going to be aware that the Democrats are narcissistic, selfish twats.
They blocked the relief bill for a second time and counter-offered some 1,400 page pile of BS listing out a bunch of extreme liberal policy.
They're using our everyday plights to gain advantage on pursuit of "realizing their vision."
I don't know how people keep saying Trump is "worse" when he hasn't done anything like this.
I'll wait.
>be me
>Polfag
>stay at home almost for 3 weeks
>my company pay me anyway
>play vidya
>watch some movie
>my GF is under quarantine so no fucking
>watch some porn+faping
>life is beautifull
I have taken it upon myself to remain as close as possible to the most "contentious zone" of the containment efforts to remain informed on the well being of our most affected brothers and sisters. This commitment, is rewarding in and of itself as I, dedicate my time and concentration to learn more about the solutions to this sickness alongside our heroes donning white. However, I must admit I do sometimes feel overwhelmed as any one of you. That is why I have sought refuge in a recent hobby of mine. I have begun concocting various liqueurs of the herbal sort. Now I assure you I have not been imbibing these tinctures myself but, the distillation process alone has refined my concentration and thought process. So much so that I now have the clarity to share with you why our Benefactors and I are so committed to combating the disinformation rampantly assaulting our complex yet delicate minds. We have all by now heard of these false claims of "censorship" and "content constraints" but, as we all know, this is not an authoritarian assault on information heavens no! As you may have guessed by my tangent concerning alcoholic infusions, our filtering of information is not set on the intention of clouding your perceptions but, by way of distillation processes such as my own, clarifying our senses. Our eyes. Our hearts. Our souls. So that we may swim through the clear and pristine waters of truth rather than the murky swamps of falsehoods.
I'd go with yes, but not because some oldfags die.
Remember 2008? There was no fundamental reason for the economic collapse (in the physical world I mean). Now there is one and the global economy is freefalling, tourism and the service industry ground to a halt in a matter of a week. Just that alone would ripple through the economy and have profound effects. But it's not just that, now is it?
Imagine you're a high-earning politician, athlete or business owner
>war in Iraq/Syria is only happening in Iraq/Syria, I've never even been to the middle east
>global warming and climate change means I can't go to Australia during bush-fire season nor can I go to Florida during hurricane season
>All of a sudden this virus emerges from china that could easily kill any old man thought to be previously untouchable in his corporate or federal office.
>realize how quickly and easily the virus is spreading
"Oh shit this is actually affecting us, better do something about it."
Yeah, that "relief bill" was mainly a bail out for corporations(again); like last time they're just going to buy back stocks with the money, which does nothing to help the economy. Small businesses were offered nothing more than a loan. Each person was going to get $1200... unless you're poor, then you get less since that makes sense. Also no one on SSI or SSDI was going to get it. Also included money to bail out cruise lines, which all register their ships in other countries to avoid paying taxes in the US.
Tell me again how the bill was a good deal?
For like a month before we get over it due to inconvenience.
it's also nice to see all the old fucks who've fucked everyone over to be in the 1% succumb to this disease
Best case scenario people appreciate all of the low paid workers that were taken for granted - the care workers, the cleaners - all the people that keep things running in the background or below people's levels of consciousness. We take social healthcare seriously as the rich realise that you can't out buy a virus.
Maybe housing will become cheaper when all the old people die and children and grandchildren to try to cash in their inheritances.
Food supply chains might be re-assessed (and the people who harvest the food by hand valued more) in the summer when everyone realises that crops aren't being picked.
If enough people get it, herd immunity will start to kick in but a vaccine will still be needed for winter seasons when it kicks off again.
Maybe people stop drinking and smoking and gambling as much after months of being locked down.
It's certainly going to change the world.
I think it's going to bring local communities closer together, and it's definitely going to put things into perspective for millenials who are now getting closer to the age of holding real power.
Once the world re-opens, it'll largely be business as usual on the global scale, but it would be nice to see those local communities being closer together having a knock on effect to the international stage.
>people stop drinking and smoking and gambling as much after months of being locked down
top kek
People will emerge from their homes either fatter from all the home-cooking or full-blown alcs or more likely, both
>republican spits the argument he heard from republicans
>liberal responds with shit hes heard from liberals
you're both so cultured, smart and completely involved. fuck it's so impressive
That is probably more likely but I'm trying to be optimistic.
WW2 didn't cause the end of the world so what makes you think some bad flu will?
No films are going to be made for a year or so. Cinemas probably won't be a thing in 24 months' time. Or ... showing classic films in cinemas will become trendy.
O great wise one, please bless us with your obviously superior opinion.
People are massive pussies these days.
Checked and agreed. My country is going into near-total lockdown at midnight tonight for a minimum of 4 weeks - I'm betting it will end up at least double that. All non-essential businesses are required to shut down. We're in for some strange times.
I think a push towards a more decentralized infrastructure with supply chains and food should be something that happens. Hell, throw in decentralized energy and such too. That could come in the form of local growers.
A big push for automation and AI development. Robots cant get COVID-19 or whatever else ends up devastating the economy in the future. Advances in quantum computing might take priority, and cloud based services for QC power could be used for anything from biological research to combat pandemic level diseases more quickly to materials science.
The internet is going to see another boom as people have a renewed vision of how this assists us in a time of isolation. Web3.0 technology and cryptocurrencies might see a big rise, especially after Bitcoin's major halvening event in May. It will lead to larger adoption and possibly a trillion dollar market cap for the first time.
People are probably not gonna he as touchy freely. Handshakes might go out of vogue for awhile.
>thinks an observation is an opinion
shocking
So, what if you have a very violent weather year and a crop disease ravages crops in addition to the "virus problem". This is just the beginning.
Get to the equator while you still can.
I don't think it will, but I hope
debt
You're fucking retarded.
The world is not going to end - but think of the effect 9/11 had on the world. This will also have a permanent effect on our generation and the world in general.
Once it's over, people will cherish going outside and socialising more. Appreciate the smaller things they took for granted before the pandemic - but it will make no difference to autistic basement-dwellers who never leave their bedrooms and have no friends anyway.
I think you're right about the push towards robotics. And the food thing. The bitcoin thing is interesting.
As for the touchy feely stuff - is it coincidence that Itay where they love hugging and kissing is being devastated whereas Germany where they don't has a much lower death toll? I mean I'm just calling on national stereotypes and fuck statistics and all the flaws in comparing different countries.
People are fucking pussies these days - you're retarded. You fucking pussy.
germany is about to become italy
I know this is serious, but In a year or two or will just leave as it came, of course I'm not saying let's go have an orgy in times square but do not loose your balls over it
>implies you're wrong, won't say how or back it up
Yas Forums these days
>will just leave as it came
you hope
well, for one - WWII was men killing men. this is nature attacking humanity at a microbacterial level at which your little gun does nothing to help. you.
but you're obviously fucking retarded so you'll probably survive, natures funny like that.
There there, anonfag.
Let it out. There’s a good boy,
Hush now.
I bet if a guy walked up to you in a street and threated you with a knife you would actually piss your pants.
i didnt say either of you were wrong, im just pointing out how simple and sheepish you inbreds sound to the rest of us
suicide is your only option
Dude I think this is a fair bit bigger than 9/11. Think more on the scale of WWII.
Well yeah, I agree that it's bigger than 9/11 - it was just an example.
But definitely not bigger than WW2, come on.
We still get the ‘Spanish influenza’ virus of 1918 hitting every year. And check it’s death toll,
Covid19 is more fatal than influenza,
We’ve known a global pandemic is the literal “highest risk risk” in terms of likelihood to happen and effect on society.
But “some people” chose to ignore those warnings as “political scare mongering” in order to keep the status quo.
Imagine if the billions just wiped off the economy had instead been put into public healthcare or science research?
Capitalism has failed
Well I'm hoping a shitload fewer people die. Realistically we're looking at losing a similar number of people in NZ as we did in WWII though, and we're in for a far greater economic impact. I can't imagine putting entire countries into isolation is going to have a minor social/cultural impact either.
yep, spanish too
Spanish Flu killed more people than the war dead of WW1.
You should take it seriously
>The irony here is unreal. You're listening to the media and Trump
I don't listen to any media because im not a retard and I don't listen to any politicians because im also not a retard, especially some jew sham shitty Businessman in a country full or retards that vote retards in because of their retarded notions of popularity contests and patriotism they are brainwashed into at a young age in school, because they are retards.
Ironically I actually work in a hospital and watch peoples lack of independent thought and their minds being swayed by media, IRL. No more or less of a retard than you who believes that radom "nurses and doctors" who tell you your opinions aren't doing it for alternative motives that are not socially benevolent.
Keep being a retard faggot, just don't breed.
This is to get people used to soldiers roaming the streets and not questioning people getting dragged off at gunpoint.
Yeah capitalism came to public services and scraped them as close to the bone as possible and now we're all fucked because a narrow set of circumstances is no longer true.
Given how poorly the US citizens and US government are handling it? I am tempted to say it's going to be a major disruption of life as we know it.
lots of people will die. it's inevitable.
like someone else said, this will make the state much stronger for a very long time. politicians will always freak out when something like this happens again because they dont want to go down in history as the politician that caused people to die.
i do think the economy will come back sooner, though.unlike the housing crisis, there is no fundamental issue with the global economy. this is an artificial shut down.
Yeah, that's exactly what nature planned.
Yeah a little bit. Hopefully it makes people realize we need to just dump china as a resource for manufacturing
just so you know about 8 to 9 million chinese people died during january february
what do those wanton runes mean?
Good. We can be up and running in less than two weeks leaving those loser european countries in the dust
This right here.
the democrats who created this hoax intend to use it to destroy our freedoms forever
you know what works against exponential growth other than vaccines?
quarantines
post pics let’s see the bodies
