This stat is skewed to make the flu seem worse, if really was 10% millions of people would die every year. So what are confirmed cases? Basically the only people getting tested for the flu are probably going to the hospital for it or related complication, like older folks and compromised immune systems. So we see the same spiked statistic already in the corona virus in Italy. They let it spread so all those people mentioned get it, go to the hospital and they basically are the front line cases to be confirmed as well as have a higher death toll, which last i saw spiked to +7%.

So the think about the flu is that say over the last 10 years, looking at US stats, is a constant .0015-.003% die from the flu, which isn't a lot. However the flue seems to be fairly contagious, so some of the worse years you see over 30million and low years around 10 million people infected. So when 60,000 people die, you don't notice. Should the corona virus be even partially successful in spreading millions of people WILL die. Statistically that is fact, worse of all our system will be so overburden more people will die because you wont be able to receive care you otherwise would get.

The numbers don't even mean much at this point because the spread is in its first stages in the west meaning many more are infected than the official numbers state. And more of those are treating it like a regular flu.
