Holy shit!
Anybody interested in this? I can keep posting otherwise I'll let it die.
It's a lighthouse
Probably a stupid question, but is that still there?
I got quite a few like that.
Neat thread
What do you think of modern architecture?
Honestly it’s boring. I’ve seen these houses pop up all around my neighborhood for years now and they’re not unique or interesting any more. It’s the new McMansion.
No, this was built for the 1893 world's fair. Basically, back in the days, we used to have massive fairs hosted by different countries every year and the idea was to build crazy shit for the world to see, just to show off and celebrate glorious times. Once the fair was over buildings and monuments were destroyed. Some of them were kept and survived though, the most famous example being the Eiffel Tower which wasn't supposed to survive. World fairs still exist today but they're shitty now, just like everything else.
i concur.
Why tear it down though?
>What do you think of modern architecture?
It gives me murderous thoughts.
first pic in this trio isnt the same building
its in san fransico i stair at it all day at work
back when Pabst won that blue ribbon they're still bragging about.
Depends. Everything should have its purpose and place. I'm okay with modern buildings, as long as they're placed in new building areas.
Towns with cultural heritage should stick to their original building style.
faggot
>Why tear it down though?
From what I read a lot of those buildings and monuments weren't build to last (construction methods and materials), they were built with only the fairs in mind and nothing else. That's probably the main reason, but I'm not sure.
Are you sure about that?

i feel the same way about economic class, race, religion, and political dogma.
You should stop staring and use the time to learn to spell.
OH yeah, what shit town do you live in
Christ, it looks like a jail.
>weren't build to last
Yeah, that's what I figured.
This kind of shit wont last long.
In 30yo they will be destroyed for ugliness.
Too bad there is an image size limit of 2mb, lot of epic shit I could drop here.
This thread is based
>one billion dollar pay raise
wonder who got that
>shit town
Nope. All those buildings were basically just plaster and iron. They refinished one and made it permanent, the museum of science and industry. Some of the landscaping is still around, but all the cool shit is long gone. Including the Ferris wheel...
Checked deserved trips.
Bump
Amazing
>the museum of science and industry
Just looked it up, pretty neat
This pic hurts my soul please no more.

Fake historism is for degenerates who think yesterday was better than today. Contemporary architecture should display signs of today's culture and society. Even in historical cities. That doesn't of course mean it should be agresive to older buildings. Good architects can build so that modern buildings look good even in historical context.
>Good architects can build so that modern buildings look good even in historical context.
Show me some examples of modern buildings that you like.
Is that supposed to look like a parasite eating the old building?
I would
IF I COULD POST!
what's the deal with the shonky photoshopping on this?
It's actually supposed to be the tip of a knife coming out from the other side of the building, the modern, global design killing off the old
Pretty poetic since that buildings in germany iirc
in real life there is only one tower with trees (Lucca, Italy)
It should also be noted, that photographing architecture is one thing, but the actual experience can be very different
More modern reuse of old buildings!
>stop! Please just stop user.
If there is anything worse than brutalism it’s this shit, taking beautiful one off classic buildings and turning them in to plastic spaceships. What ever school teaches this should be gassed.
This, a million times
Architecture is experience of all senses, not just the nice photos
