From my experience with both my King Shepherd boi Kaiser and from what I've heard from other people who own loyal, guard dog breeds, is that if you're a good owner and know how to actually train your dog, then they won't become more dominate, just really protective of you. With Kaiser, he used to be a normal German Shepherd boi where he would always want to be at least in the same room as people, but would also just do his own thing. After we started fucking, he started always being around me no matter what. He always has to be touching me. If I'm laying down somewhere, he'll hop up and bodyslam me to cuddle, if I'm sitting somewhere he's laying down on my feet, he loves cuddling and loves licking. He doesn't get super humpy though unless we are in my room, other than that, he's normal

Like I said, if you are a first-time owner do some research on the breed you're gonna get, my suggestions were a lab or golden retriever which are extremely popular breeds in America, but if you have a lot of time on your hands and you're home all the time, you could get a German Shepherd or any other breed you might be interested in, but like I said, do your research. Also, don't get a husky, get a malamute if you want a husky.
Also, make sure he's not neutered, he's gotta have his balls. If you don't want to get a puppy (and I don't really suggest getting a puppy for your first dog) get a dog from craigslist. Plenty of people on there try to find owners for their dogs instead of just dumping them at the pound, and the good thing about getting it from them vs getting a dog at a pound or "humane" society is either of those places will make you neuter or spay the dog which is obviously not what you want
