It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

You remove a king there's always chaos. Griff represents the first stability Midland has seen since before the war started which was before this manga started.
Removing him would lead to complete madness. Not to mention the war demons who are no longer controlled by their master.

I'd say Midland was a lot more stable before there were tons of otherworldy monsters roaming around and killing everything in sight.

From what I gather, there were always monsters at the fringes of MIdland. Most considered them legend or tall tales. But were very real to the locals.
And still, with the loss of the queen, half the court, and then the king, Griffith restores the hope and stability of long long past.
Like a good king. Which is what he always wanted to be since he was a little boy. Not a tirant. Which is why he let his misses set up a refugee program (or something of that nature).

Griffith's the kind of guy who came in, made things worse and then pretended it was okay because he made things marginally better.

We've been over this. Freeing midland of the "chaings of causailty" is going to lead to a bad time.
Think Syria after US/NATO forces and Ruskies have finished dicking it back and forth. Shit's gunna be ugly after that epic as fuck battle.
Also think post WW1 and the whole "no men left alive and no fields that aren't bombed out to till".
Horrible. Better if Guts just lives and lets live. But we know that wont' be the case because of causality.
And every chapter needs more Griff. Especially the one with Donovan and the three silvers. Griff would have been a great "fly on the wall" style observer for the event.

This is true, and probably the right thing in the end. As these things are cyclical and this is the age of the eclipse/demons or some shit.
But to think there's not going to be some extreme ups and downs (For now Griff is glory. Love beith to Grifith! Praise Griff!) but we all know that one way or another, shits going to go downhill fast. Be it Griff and his demons get eclipse happy, or Guts shows up to fuck things up again by trying to show Griff he's equal enough to be friends.
