Based reply. People spend too much time wishing their lives away, and not enough time making now great. It is hard to do what with quarantine and all, but once it is over I plan on actually having fun.

I checked out of the cultural zeitgeist 2005-ish, all the horrible shit that was/is happening to me in my personal life has made me dislike mostly everything new since, and the generational gap only grows. But I'm fine with it, I'm actually very interested in observing how culture evolves even if I'm not particularly fond of it

I was going through a period recently where I was really nostalgic for the 90's and early 2000's. Those days seemed like a paradise to me, but that's just because we forget about all the bad shit that happened.

I was watching some documentaries that really got me thinking, those days were complicated and stressful as well.
Ruby Ridge, Waco, OKC Bombing, World Trade Center bombing, 9/11, kidnapping and child safety scares, SARS, HIV scare still going on, Gulf War, Yugoslav Wars, '03 Invasion of Iraq, The Anthrax letters, DC Sniper, the list goes on...

I still have really fond memories of my childhood from that time period, like exploring the woods with my friends, not having internet and having to play outside, no social media, Simpler technology, pokemon cards and the first few generations of the games, Saturday morning cartoons, etc...

It's good to be fond of childhood/adolescent memories but we can't dwell in the past. If we want to move forward in life we have to make new memories and work for a life worth living. I can say that while i'm fond of the good old days, my life is objectively better now than it was back then, and i'm making the most of the present
