Mostly everyone probably gets depressed from time to time, but not everyone is permanently depressed due to some kind of chemical imbalance in the brain.

I'm 34 and I can tell you it was like having a curse lifted, I haven't been depressed since (good meds help too). Not that it made me happy, it was super disappointing but I had so much tied up in the idea of sex that finding out what a letdown it is kind of freed me to say 'wtf I can't believe I ever gave a shit about this, I could've learned to code, I can't believe I made myself miserable over this' Maybe I got lucky, but I feel certain that one pity-fuck tossed at ER woulda saved some lives.

Now it's just autism spectrum disorder and even "high functioning" autism is still a serious disability to live with. Stats have shown that a country like Australia greatly reduced it's spree shootings after enacting gun restrictions during the 1980's. Behavior is contagious and so it's hypothetically better to have angry people who want to kill others not have an easy time getting guns than it would be to have these angry people have very easy access to guns. One shooting occurs and then another and then another and pretty soon you live in a culture that glorifies violence and getting revenge. The price you pay for your freedom to own a gun is that you have to be willing to deal with someone you know potentially being shot in a active shooter event.
