Not eating doesn't make you lose weight unless you do it for an extended period, to which it will eat your muscles first anyway as they're more desirable for energy to cells. eating less is definitely the easiest way to lose weight, its a lot easier to just eat 1500 calories a day instead of 2000 than it is to workout for an hour a day or whatever. but yeah people should exercise too just bc its good for you.
If he wants to just lose weight, he shouldn't lift weights. He should do cardio, as it burns the calories. Lifting doesn't burn nearly as many calories. So OP, go for long walks and runs, it will do you good, not just for losing fat but also i prove your cardiovascular health

If you stop eating it's a fast and at 1st your body uses fat as energy which is known as ketosis then if you have no more fat it goes to the muscles.
Also make sure to drink salt in water for your electrolytes if you do fast.

I do extended fasting. 48-72 hours once a month. OMAD daily. If you are fat you don't even need to exercise, you will lose weight faster than any other method. You will only lose muscle gained through hypertrophy. Just do a lite workout, take electrolytes, take a daily vitamin and fast. My max weight loss was 175lbs to 148lbs in 2.5 months.
My issue with exercising while trying to lose weight was that it instantly made me want to reward myself with food for doing such a good job so having burned 200 calories I ended up eating 200 calories just after.
Much, much easier to just eat a little less every day and take a walk here and there. Down 20kg so far.

work out a lot like 2 hours in 2 days with 5 min. breaks in between hours. Do mostly cardio and calisthenics, do something heavy like kickboxing cardio etc. you'd want to eat way more and still lose weight. If you don't want to work that much do 1 hours each day but minimize your portions. Like eat 3/4 of what you are eating right now.

I unironically lost a shitload of weight by telling my mom to buy me stuff like canned spinach. Even though it's all cooked down so it's not a sparse as a salad, there are still virtually no calories in vegetables like that.
Also eat more eggs because protein is highly thermogenic.
combine stuff like that with some regular vigorous exercise and your body will look the way it's supposed to
