Imagine kidnapping chimpanzees and dropping them in a city and trying to teach them how to speak your language, dress properly, get a job, etc. People would think you're fucking nuts. Rome conquered them shortly after 0 AD, gave them roads and laws and things like that, which was nice of them, but by 400 AD they had completely left Britain. All of these people conquered and fought over Northwestern Europe, and it wasn't until at least the 1200s that homicide began to decline in England, which marks the beginning of a massive change in the Northwest European people.
