I think the next step is to ask "the chicken or the egg." Did porn favoring small vaginas lead to cultural demand, or did porn favoring small vaginas arise from cultural demand? If the conclusions from the study I mentioned previously are valid, then it seems media caused a cultural shift towards skinnier women. In other words, media -> culture -> preferences.
The caveat here is that not all the young girls on the island think they were too fat. Some though un-skinny was great. This means media isn't the only factor influencing beauty preferences. Naturally, we're going to have to point fingers at multiple sources (which is complicated).
