The average girl that lurked (and there were far fewer) was slightly broken, but still more functional than today's anime, video game and social media-shaped monstrosities. The zoomer Yas Forums girls actually make the older millennial ones I know look well adjusted.
The idea that you'd get a board a few years later like Yas Forums that would morph from athens/eeyore-era misogyny (seems quaint now) to some weird, complicated, interconnnecting network of discord servers full of low-key sexual predators, junkies, enablers and 13 year old girls would have seemed completely and utterly alien to me. I genuinely believe that, while we raided people and fucked with people back then, there was less genuine sociopathy. You'd get called a cuck or a faggot for posting caturday images these days, as just one example.
I think the ones who died were often wicked and immoral. But they didn't deserve to end up this way, everything about them encapsulates how degenerate our society has become - some of it their responsibility, some of it is on the wider culture:
