I've heard that 6+ Months unemployment is an application death sentence so I'm ready to go full panic mode and send out 3-5 apps a day before I reach that threshold.

as I've been telling several different lads on here, you can get work but you will have to settle for minwage manual labour stuff because as you say, a 6 month unexplained gap is really not good at all

Not even close mate, I was NEET for a year after graduating and I managed to get a job. I just lied and said I was travelling and taking some time after uni.
Does depend on your degree, what experience you have, etc. But you can lie your way out of it easily
