/fast/ - Dr. Now edition

Do end up with zero muscle glycogen? Or does gluconeogenesis take care of that? I know it makes some stored in the liver.

>do *you end up

What is fasting?
>A period of time where you don't consume ANY calories
What is the shortest time I can fast?
>16:8. A 16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window per day
What is the longest time I can fast?
>You can fast as long as you have more than 8% body fat and supplement correctly
How do I supplement correctly?
>Get enough minerals. Mainly sodium and potassium
Where do I get sodium and potassium?
>Sodium Chloride is table salt or pink salt. Potassium Chloride is salt substitute, found by the salt in grocery stores
Can I just take sodium without potassium?
>No. This is how you fuck your shit up. Potassium is non-negotiable
How much sodium and potassium?
>2500 mg / 1 teaspoon of each is a good start
Can I take all the salt at once?
>No. You will shit yourself and flush electrolytes. Mix the salts with 1-2 L of water and sip throughout the day. Mixture is called snake juice
Can I just drink water without salts?
>For shorter fasts, yes. But for long ones, you'll deplete your electrolytes and feel like shit
How long can I go on just water?
>Til you feel like shit
Any other minerals I need?
>Some add magnesium to their routine as well
What about multivitamins?
>Not really necessary
Anything else I can add to my routine?
>If your gut is fucked, you can add cayenne pepper
>Some do 1 tsp of baking soda and 0.5 tsp sodium cl for kidney health
>Some take ACV and lemon juice. Acids fuck your teeth, so don't mix with snake juice. Take separately
Coffee, tea, sweeteners?
>Can raise cortisol and insulin, reducing effects of fasting. Otherwise okay
Why not just do CICO?
>CICO fucks with both your TDE and your insulin levels in ways that fasting does not. Also, fasting has other health benefits
What are the other benefits of fasting?
>Autophagy, reduced inflammation, HGH boost, immune system recovery, increased insulin sensitivity, more muscle sparing

okay so if you drink snake juice +magnesium and don't eat do you just shit out your entire gut biome? that's gotta be good for the first five pounds

>I sharted in my bed while sleeping on a fast again.

lol, the prices we pay...

I fear the shart lads

guys how bad is the fatigue when you start? how much can you work out on keto OMAD? how much cardio vs. strength?

don't stress about glycogen your body makes it when it needs it

i did have mad diarrhea starting for 10 days

keto flu is huge when you start unprepared, headaches, brain fog, felt like fever, legit felt like I was going to die, then I felt fine again, also diarrhea and constipation, be prepared with electrolytes, snake juice and bone broth

I work out 6 times a week and feel fine, i do LISS 4 times and HIIT twice a week

Pic is me currently.
I’m new to fasting and new to
Yas Forums in general. I’m looking to cut my addiction to food and exercise some discipline for once. I did some of the research and I’m almost 24hrs into an at least a 5 day fast. I’ve got my snake juice, and etc. I’m not sure if anyone can help/answer this just by the picture but I figured I’d ask to prevent dying. Is fasting going to help my condition? What is a healthy time span for me before a refeed? Or a healthy time for me to start incorporating food with exercise?

Fuck! Your program now sounds good but that start, do not want. Did you not ease into it at all?

Just finished a 72 hour water fast, felt pretty good.
Broke it by eating some protein (beef and yogurt) which felt amazing.
Now I'm starting another 72, seems that doing rolling 72s isn't that hard but I'll see if I can maintain this.
Scale went down 3kgs in that timeframe, but who knows how much of that was actually fat.

I felt completely fine during 3 or 4 days, then suddenly it hit me like a truck during work, actually felt like I was going to pass out but yeah I did not take electrolytes until the 10th day when it went away

I did not ease into it. I went from a normal diet 3 meals a day diet to keto OMAD the next day. If you ease to paleo, to keto, to 16-8, 20-4, omad, slowly, I'd assume it wouldn't happen

Who /standing/?

On the edge

>>CICO fucks with both your TDE and your insulin levels in ways that fasting does not. Also, fasting has other health benefits
what a vague cop-out. A typical non-answer

I felt like shit on keto for like 2.5 months before I finally adjusted to it.

You REALLY learn how often and when you need to eat to maintain feeling "normal" doing that shit. I would chug heavy creme on my breaks at work just so I didn't feel like I was dying.

Also normal TDEE doesn't apply, if I ate anything shy of like 3500 calories I felt like I was dying.

>I did not take electrolytes until the 10th day when it went away
Lmao you dehydrate like hell without carbs, you have to get electrolytes like fasting. Already have my snake juice stuff. I hike out in the sun in a hot climate so I'll be hitting the salt water day 1

>2.5mo
broooo wtf. I've done OMAD with carbs before and I lost lots of fat so I certainly hit ketosis and it all felt good. really hoping I don't get this...I don't expect it

Why don't you just ask in the thread for someone to backup the claims instead of whinging about an OP that's supposed to give concise answers. Reducing portions size through calorie counting reduces metabolic rate while fasting increases it.All food spikes insulin, no food doesn't, so not eating will cause your body to become more insulin sensitive

*Yas Forums G O L D*

i've read around the internet that lemon water will not break your fast
but can i just eat lemon? i don't like lemon water, i just peel them and eat them with some salt

im in the middle of a 4 day fast, someone said that long-term fasting causes hair loss and now i got my shit all worked up.
this real bros or am i getting fucked with?

Attached: B5F3D6AB-75DC-4A90-9B89-CF5595C58441.jpg (1024x744, 145.38K)

>4 days in
>long-term fasting

Hair loss can occur but it's reversible and when they're saying "long-term" they mean 30 days+

Technically you could have one a day as they're very low calorie (depending on the cultivar I'm guessing, I know Meyer's lemons are a lemon/orange hybrid so they may be higher). If it'd be a big help and let you continue doing your fast longer then fine but if it's just because your bored and want something to do don't bother. It'll also rek your teeth eating something that acidic constantly

You can just immediately rinse it off and brush your teeth, right?

I guess best would be to swish baking soda around

im severely addicted to them, at some point i managed to eat a bag of 2 kilos in three days

also i hate salt water so i have a big chunk of my salt intake with half a lemon daily
my teeth are fine btw

>Eating 2 kilos of lemons in three days
You've surpassed humanity

start with 48 hours max, goober. you're new and throwing yourself into an extreme length. there's nothing wrong with eating food. it's just the quality and amounts you need to correct.

Alright /fast/ give me your BEST and most EFFECTIVE methods of fighting the urge to binge and/or break a fast when you know you shouldn't.

How do you do it? What is your weakness in these trying times?

Attached: 1573340115156.jpg (267x200, 7.58K)

Plan: finish my milk and potatoes in the next week.

Then: keto/carnivore, as many meals as I want.

Once fat-adapted: OMAD.

After the first few fasts I stopped having cravings, now I have to summon some effort to break a fast. When I had the urge to break early on I could power through it, seeing as it was just a matter of lasting another day or two

>How do you do it?
Get rid of anything that might tempt me beforehand, do light exercise (take a walk, etc) whenever the urge hits and DON'T MAKE ANY FUCKING EXCUSES.
>What is your weakness in these trying times?
Oatmeal and rye flour, unironically.

Even if you squeezed every last srop of juice out of a lemon it wouldn't be more than 10 calories. Don't fall for the technicality bullshit these threads perpetuate. OH NO YOU ATE A GRAIN OF SAND, YOU BROKE YOUR FAST, GG NO RE. You could drink a fucking V8 if you wanted to. Your body is going to evaporate a mere double digit caloric intake like it's nothing, especially in a fasting state.

This being stuck in my house shit is going to be the death of me. I went from 400 down to 280 and ever since I got stuck inside somehow I can't stop eating from boredom. I haven't gained but I've totally stalled out and fucking christ I want to die.

Same really. I can no longer tell my family that I just ate something while I fucked off in town. Now I have to stand my ground and say I am not going to eat. Luckily they seem to be backing off, but me being able to smell the good food they make is making it more difficult.
I also have been stalling through the entirety of March.

I just look in the mirror. Tracking your weight or making before-after pictures is also an enormous help long-term. The new decade also gave me inspiration. I used to just go to the gym when I felt like I was getting weak, and then my hunger went away.
There is also a move that is a little more complicated, lodged into my psyche. I collect and remember images. Where the girl is soft and cute, and the guy is strong and ripped. I just imagine her soft body against his ripped flesh and know; "I want to be that ripped flesh".

Anyone got tips for preventing insomnia on any fast longer than 48h? Even with late dinner refeed the third night I Will not sleep even as 15% bodyfat. So now im doing 2500 calories dinner refeeds but id like to be able to Push couple more 72s

I found as I did more and more 72s my insomnia on those nights subsided

That is something I would be willing to try but unfortunately im working so even having 1 completely sleepless night is really affecting my business

Fasting feels illegal.

Attached: 1582331222541.png (434x341, 33.07K)

It almost feels like cheating its so fucking easy and people are still petrified of it.

I'm currently 6 days in to a either 14 day or 20 day fast and was wondering has anyone just refed for 2 days and then get right back in to a 2week+ fast or should I eat for more days?

>that feel when your hunger builds for a few minutes, builds to a peak, and then just sort of melts away
anyone know what i'm talking about?

Attached: 1457689303143.jpg (500x332, 23.89K)

Tea spoon or table spoon?

thoughts on using this for rolling 72 hour fasts?

Attached: 1558304096550.png (1571x753, 442.33K)

Tablespoon is tbsp, teaspoon is tsp. No idea how you've lived this long without knowing that

Table spoon

Seem fine, low on potassium though

actually the electrolyte drops have a better ratio

Help bros, I want to try dry fasting and just need to clarify things to make sure I'll be doing this right, so I had just ate my lunch and its currently 5:30PM as of writing this, by 6:00PM i want to start my dry fast.

Would this mean that the dry fast period of no liquids is from 6:00PM now to 6:00PM tomorrow. is it okay if i take caffeine water now and cut it off completely by 6?

From my very limited experience with dry fast I would advise waiting a bit more before starting, that last meal without water afterward will be painful to digest. Wait for the digestion to be over before starting.

Cole says drink as much SJ as you want but I had 4L in a day and felt like I was going into cardiac fucking arrest. I think I was hyperkalemic but idk

There is no need to do a 20 day fast that’s insane even for us. I don’t care if you’re 1200lbs, roll 7 days

alright, I'll just finish this longer fast then I start with the rolling 7s, thanks. Sergey bless.

When do you guys work out when fasting?
I'm doing 16~ hour fasts and would rather work out in the morning but feel I'll have more energy after eating?

Tooth enamel isn't made from brushing your teeth bro.

I'd like to write a book and give it away for free but then I realize all I need to write is "don't eat". I feel the masses need a paradigm shift, some kind of catch phrase like
>you don't lose weight by eating
It's not entirely accurate because of cico but it's blunt enough to shift perspectives.
