>Brain gains
Its such good shit.
Cmon, u know this board is full of meatheads and underage kids. Dont expect too much from their reading choices.
Kek just watched all of his clips on YouTube. Dudes a genius
I'm so glad we have statistician Alexey Guzey to tell us that getting more sleep is only good for you rather than a panacea while calling Walker's PhD "less prestigious."
You know what they say about people who live in glass houses.
Lol, that guzey dude needs to stop being a sperg and actually look at reality sometime
You know Walker straight up lied about his credentials?
I got almost 400 pages into The Brothers Karamazov and I didn't really like it. A lot of the philosophy on the nature of man, particularly Ivan's philosophy, reminded me strongly of the "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength" spiel from 1984 only expressed in probably 10x less concise of an argument. Most of the book's theology was stuff I heard my priest say every sunday at the church I attended as a kid, maybe it was considered revolutionary in the 19th century but now it's a bog standard part of the catechism. The dysfunctional, self-destructive, sex-driven motivations and relationships of Fyodor, Ivan, Dimitri, and their women reminds me strongly of A Streetcar Named Desire which I also didn't really enjoy reading. I realize that this isnt really fair to Dostoevsky because I'm essentially blaming him for not being original with respect to later authors who were all expanding on the philosophy Dostoevsky invented, but still. It makes reading the book very tedious. There's only so many times I can take having the narrative be put on pause for like 15 straight pages to espouse on a philosophical stance that I've already been exposed to since childhood. And the narrative itself is sometimes hard to follow, Dostoevsky has a habit of not using emotional indicators when leading into quotes so frequently a character will have a large mood swing during a conversation and it takes me a bit to realize that it happened, it's very jarring. Maybe it's a problem with the translation (I'm reading the original Constance Garnett translation) but I suspect not because that would be a pretty big thing to miss.
i actually read 10 pages of this before i realised what was happening
Thanks user, I was planning on reading this, but by god can dostoevsky be thick sometimes. I'll put it on my "one day" list
I'm reading the pmohackbook, which is just a book where it shows you how to convince yourself that you don't want to watch porn anymore.
I don't know what i'll read next, I might just read the principia discordia again or read the bible again.
> says the medical research council is prestigious
> don’t even award degrees
> pmohackbook
Any good?
Yes
rereading pic related
pic unrelated, right user? Don't tell me you call that /lit/
based and function-pilled
I like it i guess, I read the book on how to stop smoking that the pmohackbook is based on. It's really just beating into your head that you don't want to smoke/watch porn, which is/was true for me.
Good choice.
Yes sir
So this book is about how to make it not hurt when a huge dude with a moustache is behind you?
WHOS GONNA CARRY THE BOATS AND THE LAWWWWGS!
you too, I've taken an extended break from school so I'm ramping up my reading before I jump back in
Just finished pic related. Not really Yas Forums related, but since I'm European, I figured I may aswell learn how Europe as I know it was born. Great read, kept really interesting by the way its written, feels like more like a great, epic story than a history book, but still keeps everything sourced and factual. It wraps up with the Pope Urbans call for Crusades. So naturally I picked up a book dedicated to the crusades now, only a bit in but it's already an interesting read, very non-biased which is what all history books should strive for. (The Crusades, by Thomas Asbridge)
Being dumb is high test. Take the cavemanpill.
Karamazov is a seminal piece of western fiction. Don’t take the word of user on Yas Forums, read it for yourself and draw your own conclusion.
>camoo
what are you, 13 years old?
>literally living through a pandemic
>not binging plaguelit
reading don quijote rn, it's based and redpilled
based and nathanpilled
Don Quixote is very based
It's a seminal piece of western literature because it serves as the foundation of modern existentialist philosophy and inspired all 20th century works of literature that draw from this school of thought (essentially all of them). That does not mean that it's easy or enjoyable to read. It's a bit like acknowledging the Model T as the foundation of model automobile design while admitting that it is not a smooth or safe ride by modern standards.

Imagine refining your self and willpower to the point where you become strong and fit after being a fat fuck, and then deciding to waste your life by devoting the prime of your life to serving the state lmaoooo

You’re kind of a retard. He said the REASON he lost weight is because he wanted to be a Navy SEAL.
You're a moron. He received funding thru the MRC and completed the research at Newcastle upon Tyne.
I'll link his PhD thesis for you
web.archive.org
fucking mega cant download shit from there
Imagine being this incompetent
>me, an intellectual
>then deciding to waste your life by devoting the prime of your life to serving the state
He only joined the Seals because he wanted to test himself. He even talks about how he wasn't a team player. That's why he'll never be on the Jocko podcast unfortunately.
That's not what he claims though. Look at the screenshot I took of his website.
He still claims he got it from MRC. Why? Because London everyone knows and is prestigious, Newcastle isn't.
Also, his own sources that he uses contradict his statements lol.
On page 6, Walker writes:
>[E]very species studied to date sleeps
This is false, at least, according to Walker’s own source. When making this claim, he cites:
Kushida, C. Encyclopedia of Sleep, Volume 1 (Elsever, [sic] 2013)
….which turns out to be a 2,736 page book that costs $1,995. Fortunately, Walker tells us that we should search for this information somewhere in “Volume 1” or the first 638 pages of the book.
Anyway, page 38 reads:
>It now appears that many species reduce sleep for long periods of time under normal conditions and that others do not sleep at all, in the way sleep is conventionally defined.
Walker is a proven bullshitter.
hahaha based as fuck
>web.archive.org
Oh and btw, his thesis has NOTHING to do with sleep.
Not that it's not important. But it's not to do with sleep.
>Goggins spends chapter complaining about his ex's racist dad
>didn't trust Goggins because "he's black, so he'll just leave you once he knocks you up"
>Goggins then talks about how he knocked her up and then left her
I dunno what he was going for with this part.
Yes
David "Mentally ill genetic freak" Goggins
>genetic freak
>has a hole in his heart, has thyroid problems, 300lbs twice in his life
Read this in an afternoon over the weekend. Brainlet tier shit
>has a hole in his heart
Allegedly
>has thyroid problems
Self inflicted due to his retarded "savage" training mentality
>300lbs twice in his life
Self inflicted AGAIN, because he was a permabulking powerlifter who even considered competing in Strongman
what the fuck does 'allegedly' mean? He obviously got it. Stop being a knob.

Oh look. Everything he said is true
You are disputing whether or not he has a PhD. Nowhere has it ever been claimed that his PhD was in sleep. If you really believe that you must have your degree in the field you publish, then stop shilling your shitty website, Alexey. Also, if you read more than the first chapter before writing your shitty blogpost, you would have seen that he specifically mentions his PhD is his chapter on Alzheimer's and how that led him to do more research on sleep.
Typical Gogginsfag. I bet you wake up at 4.30am every day and constantly tell people to GET AFTER IT too.
Are you deliberately dense?? I didn't debate he has a PhD. He said he got his PhD from MRC. He didn't. And I mentioned his actual degree because he bills himself as a a sleep expert when his book is full of shit.
Also, I'm not Alexey. I'm legit concerned that people are wasting 1/3 of their life by sleeping his recommended 8 hours a day. It's ok Mr Walker. We at Yas Forums see through your bullshit. We're not going to waste 1/3 of our life because of your shit advice.
