And it sounds like to get full ROM you need enough weight that it overcomes your full body tension in the locked position, and any less weight than that can't be lowered for full ROM. So how do I safely test what that weight needs to be? If I just keep adding weight until I reach the bottom, how do I know I'll be able to push it back up? It seems to me that there might be a range of weight where neither full ROM nor completion of the lift is possible. Should I compromise the form outlined here to make ROM in that case or just work partial ROM with this form?

Not that I can bench for another month at least, of course.

I follow conjugate programming. I had probably the worst front to back imbalance possible.
Started reading Louie's books, then started doing the Wenning Warmups before lifting, which alleviated the pain. I couldn't even put a 140kg barbell on my back anymore.
Then I hired a coach who does conjugate programming, and my lifts exploded.
And doing stuff that Donnie Thompson lines out also helped greatly, since all of them are easy and free or at least low cost if you are willing to improvise a bit.

Now I started programming for some friends for shits and giggles, since they're fucked up as well, and my professional background kinda deals with biomechanic issues anyway.
