Ran 8 miles today which is a new distance record for me. How is running going for you guys?

post time desu. I'm just starting to run for boxing training cause gym is closed. I did 6k in 30 mins which I'm pretty happy with. my calves are sore, and I've got tiny calves, so hopefully if I run more they'll grow a bit
I ran 4 miles today. Can't play basketball for now so I'm just trying to move around. Gonna just keep working the distance up each week, try to do 13 at some point probably
I used to do like 7.5 miles a week as a big fat fatty (350 pounds to 200 pounds)
Running as a fat and using cheap shoes caught up with me though, i can't get very far without knee pain.
I'm thinking about picking up some real running shoes to see if they'll help but I don't want to wase the 150 dollars you know?
>How is running going for you guys?
Am at day 2 week 1 of this program
youtube.com
>to 200 pounds
Youre still fat
I was running all winter on the treadmill but the gyms closed. The weather is finally getting better so hopefully I can run outside soon, but it's supposed to be rain/snow this week.
I never said I wasn't
ran 10k+ each day last week, had some pain in my left knee and didn't run for a couple and then ran ~7km yesterday before it hurt again.
really is a game of not injuring yourself, but i hate when it seems to occur for no reason
I think I keep getting shin splints. Just bad form? I need to keep running for a physical fitness test so I can't stop.
Not OP, but I also ran 8 miles today. Used to be a lot faster, became a slow slug when I started lifting, trying to get back in shape.
Just watched Brittany Runs a Marathon and got me inspired. I used to do ten miles a week and now I'm thinking this lockdown is the perfect time to train for a half marathon.
Brb gonna go do two miles.
Forgot pic related.
my time is pretty bad but this is nothing short of a miracle for someone like me who had to walk the mile in high school
Yeah see this guy is an animal. Maintains a sub 7 minute mile with a 1000 ft of vert thrown in there for shits and giggles. I don’t think that is a level I’ll ever be able to get to
How do I pace myself? I haven't ran in consistently since my track years. The few runs I did go on, I always pushed myself while being out of shape. That made me not liking running
only advice I have is to rack up more miles on your feet until you develop an intuition of sorts. the vast majority of my running as a beginner was at like 95% of my heart rate lol. eventually after a year and some weight loss things started to come together and I can actually zone train now
the air quality is so good now, did 5 miles last night and i feel like i've never breathed so easy
Breathing control and heart rate.
Do you do it nonstop or do you stop to walk during your “runs”? Built up to 25 minutes on a treadmill, started running outside and while I can now go much further much easier than I could before it’s way less. The park by my house has a half mile course with some small inclines. It’s not really shit but I could only run maybe 1/4th before feeling exhausted before. Gonna shoot for one full mile tomorrow before doing some run walking
>no reason
I bet your form is shit.
That's not bad. Especially your first time running 8 miles. Most of your runs shouldn't be run at a fast pace anyways.
> I could only run maybe 1/4th before feeling exhausted before
Then run slower. You shouldn't be getting tired on your runs let alone after such a short distance.
I’m also new to running though man. But yeah I’ve been trying to work on slowing down but I have the same problem as . If I go slow enough to still be running I can go further but I need to focus on keeping that pace at all times plus bro to mention it feels “TOO” slow almost like it’s a jog
Oh and also 1/4th of the 0.5 mile is what I was doing before now I can do the full 0.5. Still, if like to be able to run 5 miles like it’s nothing
Did 16 miles today at 8:10 pace. Marathon training going well but fearing that it'll get called.
Don't focus on how fast you go. Rather, focus on being able to hold a conversation at the pace you're running. You shouldn't be running out of breath and your sentences should be easily understood. I like to check my pace by periodically breathing through my nose only. If I can do it for like 10 seconds without struggling I'm running at a reasonable pace.
Doing this over a period of months at correct mileage will see your pace naturally quicken without doing any fast workouts. You should have a longer run at least once a week though, as that's arguably the most important type of run during your week no matter what you're training for.
>haven’t consistently ran since summer last year
how the fuck do i pull myself out of this, running bros?
Can I slap women's asses if Im fast enough? What should be my pace?
Dude the only pace I can have a conversation at is walking. At my slowest I can struggle and force myself to breath through my nose for maybe 30 seconds. Everyone says this conversational pace shit but I legit don’t have one that’s still running
>I like to check my pace by periodically breathing through my nose only. If I can do it for like 10 seconds without struggling I'm running at a reasonable pace.
Wait Im not supposed to breath with my nose?
go for a run
wow dude you're a beast deadass. im out here struggling to maintain a 9 min pace for a 10k lmao
anyone here stiff leg muscles while sprinting?
The first few days I sprinted it was fine but after a few days everytime I start sprinting my hamstrings cramp and get stiff and I can't go all out.
what do
Stretch nigga
Do downward dog
It’ll change your life
On a taper. Still going to do a marathon distance next week despite my marathon next week being cancelled.
I am slow as shit, but can go for pretty long distances.
how do you even go that slowly?
Slow your roll bro, it was 8000 feet of climbing at elevation, I hiked most of it.
I'm going on longass hikes and it's getting easier. Steep as fuck some parts though, like a split squat every step, so I death-march, I don't run generally. I'll let my legs heal and try to jog up 1,200 feet over 1.25mi Tues or Weds.
IME simply not walking = fastest on D1 wrestling team, it's that fucking steep
Oh ok. I thought that was the elevation you were at. Yeah 8000 ft of climbing is badass. That’s a good time desu
Started running 5ks 3-4 days a week. Really liking it so far. Wanna build up to 10k ASAP but also scared of snapping my knees up so taking it slow. Monday and Wednesday are normal 5ks and friday I’ll keep increasing my distance by 500m every time. Is that a decent progression scheme?
Based ultrarunner.
Best running shoes ?
my annual 50k got cancelled, so I'm thinking of running it twice by myself (100k). Anyone in the 100k club? Any tips?
Hooka or Altra Running, it's worth the investment.
I dont run i briskly walk and lift for all of the gains!
Shit 140 euros for a pair of shoes, got anything cheaper, im a student and I can't exactly spend that much on a pair
new balance
That's better thanks !
How do I get started? I need someone to spoonfeed me shit like how to warm up, how much to run, etc.
How about you try googling "How to warm up for running" or "how much to run as a beginner" or also important for your case "Good form for running"
You also have no background, do you weigh 400 lbs and get winded walking to the fridge, or can you easily walk miles?
Same
Not him but I’m 6’2” 250lbs and I can only run 1 mile nonstop. I’m cutting. My goal is fat loss and to be able to run 5+ miles so I can perform in fire academy (running 3-5 miles 5 days a week).
Goddamn. I could not motivate myself to pick up the pace yesterday. Z2 heart rate is like 20BPM faster, but I basically just dicked around and enjoyed the weather
is this really that good? It's ~13K in one hour that's good but not 'beast' status (it shits on my 13K though that's for sure, I only get 8K in 38m)
Advice for running at higher altitudes, around 4,500ft? Its hard as fuck to breathe up here.
Gonna do that beginner C25K looking routine, what do I do to measure time? Just wear a watch? Use my phone?
How is your heart rate that low on a run? wtf
not really man 4500 isn’t that high. It’s like 3% or 4% less oxygen. 8000 is where it starts getting difficult so maybe go even higher up
Running is like lifting, it takes almost no effort to dominate 99% of casuals.
But no, that is not an incredible time when compared against people who, y'know, run at least 3 times a week and aren't lazy about it.
t. does not run
