Honestly, the best way to train for pullups is to do pullups. I struggled to do even one chinup when I started and had to suffer weeks of extreme soreness, but after a couple recoveries, I was able to do deadhang -> chest to bar pullups with ease. Only took 4 weeks to go from no pullups to pullup master. Zenkai boost is a real thing.

Doesn't hurt to through them in, but if you want to improve pullups, simple do more pullups. Its a shitty embaressing start, but eventually you'll be able to do 3 reps, then 4, then 5. Patience, and increase the number of sets/reps gradually throughout time.

Yeah, I hadn't done them in years and was still able to do three. I can do six now that I've trained at it for a few weeks. My friend's dad is 60 and he was able to do three before he stopped, looked like he could do more. Don't think he works out at all, but isn't fat either

How did you train for pullups without being able to do them? I am a moderately strong guy when it comes to lifts, but at 6'5 225 with long arms I cannot do a pull up.
Anti gravity machine, rubber band, or use a stool to get up and then go down as slowly as you can.
I could do one chinup. I did multiple sets of 1.
I know it sounds pathetic, but now I am one of the few people in the gym who does weighted pullups with a complete ROM.

Do jumpstarts, grab the bar and jump and slowly come back down hanging from the bar, and do that for sometime maybe a week, then jump halfway and try to pull yourself all the way up but again, come back down slowly, two weeks later.... 5 reps 2-3 sets. I did it. And I’m 6’3 210

Yep. Negatives work really well. I did a set of 3 x 5 negatives after I'd finished with my pull ups. It got the point after a few weeks where I didn't need to do negatives anymore.
Another tip is to always do one more pull up than you did on the last session, even if you need to add another set to do so.
