Guy without a squat rack here in his home gym, just a bench and a barbell with plates, would hip thrusts serve as a viable alternative to back squats if I combine front squats and deficit deadlifts for hypertrophy? This seems like a stupid question also but would it be better in the longer term to clean weights up for back squats? I don't think it would though I have seen stuff out there suggesting to clean weights up whenever possible off the floor.

front squats, zerchers squats or any form of deadlift would serve as a better alternative to hip thrusts. imo they're a waste of time.

No matter what you'll be limited by the amount you're able to clean. Doing some tempo stuff would probably make the most of what you have.

just a PSA that while Rippetoe is charging $1185 for his squat rack, any competent welding shop should be able to make it for $250, per the quotes i've got. Costs can be lowered by having less holes drilled (only having them in a realistic height rather than from 1' to 6')

Most of your muscle mass is probably in your legs. Don't forget to do lots of upper body accessory work user.

Definitely is. Starting to train upper more bodybuilder style, like arnold press etc. Lower seems to add size doing 5s etc no bother, upper has always lacked.

Find something heavy and deadlift it. It doesn't have to be as heavy as your barbell DL because the center of gravity will probably be farther away from you. A couch, a big CRT TV, a big rock, the back of a small pickup if your DL is really damn good, etc.
