Martial Arts General

Talk training, training at home, fights, etc.
If I want to buy mats to do some BJJ drills and mobility stuff at home, does the thickness matter? Should I go with standard 4cm, or can I get away with 2.5cm to cut some costs?

Attached: dnlps4Z.jpg (840x802, 57.99K)

Also, btdb(dot)eu for instructional DVDs and such

>tfw have a heavy bag bag at home but too retarded and unmotivated to come up with drills and hit the damn thing for 12 rounds without my coach shouting at me

Attached: Chinese virus.png (1022x731, 642.76K)

are there instructional dvds with cute guys

Boxing coach here, user. If you want I can shout at you on skype. Free of cost. Bored AF

Come on user, just look up drills and combos and do them. Some is always better than none.
Yes, John Danaher is cute.

no go with 4cm, your knees with thank you

Cute enough for you?

How big should I go? 2m x 2m? 1m x 2m? I will mostly train solo

/mag/, let's understand something. The art of shitposting can be thought of as a system, comprised in turn of various subsystems that are interlinked with each other. For example, when the Bait system fails, you have a natural entry into using 'post body' attacks.

Lel, I love Danaherisms

>there are ppl here who believe that JSP was natty

Now, why did user (You) me at this point in the fight? We can see that he has lost the dominant position.

just go with 2x2 if you can and find a non gook to drill with go for it... dont try to do takedowns tho

hahahaha please post it if it happens

The only person who I trust to be 'safe' atm is my fiancee, and she doesn't know shit about BJJ. Guess I'll stick to solo drills

he's cute in a 'pikachu is cute' kind of way not 'he's so cute I wouldnt mind looking at him for hours half naked while instructing me on martial arts' kind of way like pre-facial recontruction sage northcutt

Boxing Coach here.

Only worked with Adults up until this point and now...

>I have both my new Nephews

Nephew 1 is 11
Nephew 2 is 12

N1 = Brainy, Pretty Boy Jokester (Fast learner, but lies to seem cool)

N2 = Football Kid. (Respectful, Happy, Not As fast on the uptake)

N1 = Fast as hell and skinny
N2 = Almost as tall as a grown man. Fat.

It's exciting to work with someone so young. Since that is how champs are made.

Anybody here have experience teaching kids?

N2 can handle some of the adult stuff like toughing it out.

N1 gets shook up easy because he's young and small.

N2 Loves the sport.
N1 just wants ME to like him.
(Closest thing he has to a father.)

There's a division between my old ass sensibilities and their enthusiasm.

Any martial arts instructors here?
Or just younger fight enthusiasts?

I need things to help kids stay on task. I'm no babysitter. Just an old mean bastard that likes to help people fight good.

I started working so I could begin doing mma and now the gyms are all fucking closed. Anyways, I need to cut and up my cardio. Best ways to lose a ton of fat? I don’t give a fuck about losing muscle anymore but I also don’t want to end up skinnyfat and somehow too weak to start mma/boxing/muaythai/bjj

It's good that you're not concerned with losing muscle.

Staying lean is paramount to success in fight sports.

Road work.
Old School stuff.

3 miles of running a day.

You will get hungry.
Ignore that feeling.

Portion control is everything. As in.

Eat mostly lean meats like chicken, with little to no sugary things.

Have some carbs with each meal but this must be limited to only a Sweet Potato Quarter.

Or a small amount of brown rice.

Hydrate like crazy.

Do not eat just before bed.

The more you sweat and breathe, the more fat you burn.

If you need some power? Do pushups and jump squats. When are bored, jump rope and do head movement.

Just sweat.
Eat less.
You will defeat your weakness.

Continuing about these kids cause they are fascinating.

N2 = Sloppy when he gets tired, but after just 6 classes he already strings together punches like the adults.

N1 = An actual Chameleon fighter at the age of 11. Incredible. He watched pros do the Philly Shell stance on YouTube and showed up to class actually doing it.

It's wild.
The sheer physical talent in my Wife's Side of the family.

She's tall for a woman as well.
Trains with us.

She punches like Foreman.

I cannot wait to see what our kids are like.

Ideas for training jiu-jitsu in a condo space?

Get a partner.

Or do tons of yoga/core work and explosive hitt cardio

Attached: bb2f7a8a5ad2b68ecd48e3340637029c.jpg (550x800, 48.41K)

What martial art should I learn?

Striking stuff feels too competitive for me and I'm more prone to grappling anyways while BJJ feels a little redundant in street fights. (If you're already takedown'd to the ground, you're probably knocked unconscious). It is quite fun though, I always manage to squirm out of most tight locks during rolls.
I was thinking of Judo but I'm trying to move away from TMA type stuff. It's too bad there's no wrestling places near my area.

Was supposed to have my first fight in April, got moved to June, but my state is on lockdown until fucking MAY. No sparring reaction drills, don't even have a heavy bag, and I've only been training for a little over a year. I'm FUCKED. What do?

pic related with a partner.

Sounds like you just want a Grapple sport that's practical.

Judo or Sambo.

Sambo is a Russian sport that emphasizes take downs and impacts but only favoring you, the user.

It is adapted from Judo. Give it a shot.

You aren't fucked.

This is your chance to be in the best shape of your life.

Empty streets means lots of time to run.
Empty schedule means more time to do shadow boxing.

Spend your last bit of scratch on a mirror and a jump rope.

Do sit ups, jump, and run until you are a monster and this whole thing blows over.

You're welcome.
Most first fights come down to nerves and cardio.

So it turns out that I have approximately 2m x 1.7m in my shed. Should I go with 2m x 2m and just sort of fold it up with wall? Or would 2m x 1m be better in this case?

Thanks mag bros, Ive been panicking but forgot I had a jump rope, but other than that I've been shadowboxing, burpees and running. Only one kettlebell, buts it's only 35lbs. Might run to Walmart and see if they have pull up bars.

Just worried about ring rust and cardio. Sparring always gave me bad nerves and doing it weekly was helping a bit.

Ran 5,5km in 23 minutes

Not impressive to runners but i''ve only been doing roadwork for like 2 months now

Attached: Cinnamon bun.jpg (484x858, 70.98K)

If my Math is correct.
That is 3.5 miles in 23 minutes.

6.6 Miles per minute.

It is good to be proud of your physical achievements, user.

Maintain that feeling.
Bask in it.

Your brain will try to take it from you, so that you will seek the pleasure again.

Forsake the pleasure.

Keep the pride.
Do it again, and share your results honestly.

Very good work.

Attached: Screen Shot 2020-03-24 at 9.39.56 AM.png (227x326, 73.28K)

*6.6 Minutes per mile

My name should be "Old and Fat Fingers Fag"

Fixed.

Just remember.

Agility, and lack of hesitation will take you very far.

When it comes to your nerves.
Know this.

Acting with confidence, even when you are scared is how people become.

It is patently so that confidence breeds success and success breeds confidence.

Your opponent is scared too.

Foster his fear with your attacks.
Never show him yours. No matter what he does.

A slight suggestion in your Shadow Boxing.

Try doing a round where you throw a punch, move and reset AS FAST as you come up with the motion to do so.

Do not throw a few strikes.
Pause.

Come up with your next strikes.
This is abysmally slow compared to the action in the ring.

Move at the speed of your thoughts.
Do not police them.

Do not think about your cardio.

Just do.
Just go.

As fast as you think.
Video this if you can.

That is how you will fight in the ring.
With all those flaws.

And all that speed and action.

Work from there.

>Roadwork
Noob here, what is this?

Running.

Preferably 3 miles.
Daily, and early in the morning.
Before breakfast or coffee.

Specific Question For anybody present

>What is your Martial Art?

>Do you train in a gym? Or at home?

>How are you regarded in your gym?

Why are so many in the "strength sports industry" suddenly into BJJ? It's like the latest trend. It used to be weightlifting and everyone was uploading "how to snatch" on their YT channels.

just let it fold up unless its way more expensive

>tfw 183cm but a 178cm reach

Am I ever gonna make it?

No Fat Chicks.

>What is your Martial Art?
Was strictly a boxfag... in my late teens/early 20s
now mostly BJJ, Luta livre... with some MT and boxing when i can
>Do you train in a gym? Or at home?
Couple different gyms... one strictly BJJ in the GI and one is Luta livre and MT.... but have a nice home gym set up and a buddy whos a s&c coach at an MMA gym that I drill MMA stuff and lift with
>How are you regarded in your gym?
Early 20s probly as a rough neck wigger and now at almost 30, I think hopefully as a good and helpful training partner thats respectful to everyone

>Martial art?
BJJ
>Where do you train?
Gym and running in my neighborhood
>How are you regarded?
Pretty good I guess, no real beef or disagreements with others. Because I'm taller and heavier, I get asked to partner with some of the bigger higher belts

>Do not eat just before bed
broscience
Supplement roadwork with swimming if you can and HIIT. Sprints and conditioning drills on the mat

>Bro Science

A full stomach can disrupt sleep.
It takes energy to digest.

Creating a smaller window of time to eat?
Can mean less calories.

That part is not bro science.

Besides mats, what are some other useful or necessary things to drill BJJ things at home? Someone suggested a boxing bag to simulate an opponent for things like guard passes. Any other ideas?

>54925329
>What is your Martial Art?
Kickboxing/Muay Thai, but don't put as much emphasis on elbows
>Do you train in a gym? Or at home?
I WAS training at a gym. Try to go minimum 5 days a week, bodyweight/ running on off days, trying to find a way to incorporate lifting when Corona-chan decides to leave
>How are you regarded in your gym?
Only been there a year, but people starting to notice my cardio improve. That being said, my gym nickname is Twink because one of the coaches called me a Twinkie for being soft and "full of cream filling" for gassing out on bag drills and core work.

Nice progression, user.
These sports help grow who we are, and better define what we become.

Giving that gift to others when our time is done is the highest ambition.

Ah, I see.
Are you lonely?
Or are you the rare individual who is at peace in solitude?

>Twink

Well.
Have you proved them wrong yet?

That is the sort of name that you have to keep.
You have to outgrow it.

Until it becomes ironic to use. Or say.

Until people hear it, and are afraid to use it.

>Are you lonely?
In the whole quarantine situation or during BJJ?
I guess neither really, I live with my fiancee and we go running regularly, so it's all good. In the gym I know almost everyone and we get along great during drills and before and after training. During sparring it's total war, as it should be, but it's all in good fun.

LMAO

You are living a good life, user.

Congratulations.

>J

>Until it becomes ironic to use. Or say.

>Until people hear it, and are afraid to use it.

I've gotten stronger and have better stamina, but it's more about how I present myself, I think. Always been the quiet autist type, and martial arts haven't helped my social ineptitude as much as I would have liked. I honestly don't let it get to me though, it's mostly only this one coach who says it (unless people are talking shit behind my back). I figure I just go in and work hard

Chameleon fighter?

'Tism and Combat Sports do not cancel out I am afraid.

>Lots of time spent isolated to build physique and skill

>Niche Subject
>Very intricate

>Small portion of the population who participate

I am sorry.
You are a Fight Weeb.

>J
And yes GSP is, what makes you think he isnt? He isnt very large and he's been training his entire life

Just an old term to reference people that can...

>See a move
>Have it explained in theory

>And suddenly fucking do it
>Not just sort of do it
>But do it EXACTLY as well as someone who practiced it for a few weeks

It is a great archetype for "Skill Collectors" if that's your thing in this sport.

A known sort of person in Martial Arts.

The physical / social version of a photographic memory.

master splinter embodied this concept.

That dude sure loves the sound of his own voice.

[spoiler] I like the sound of his voice too, no homo

>What is your Martial Art?
Muay Thai and recently BJJ
>Do you train in a gym? Or at home?
Previously at gym but whole global pandemic thing has stopped that for a while
>How are you regarded in your gym?
Solid (but not great) MT guy and a complete newb in BJJ

Where the fuck can you find Luta Livre? How's it compare to BJJ?

Bump

You focus on your skills in term of your regard.

Interesting.

What about your relationship with those you train with?

Do you intend to fight?

Am i doomed if i start at 22 MMA/Boxing? I'd love to compete atleast on amateur level, but i couldnt start earlier cause didnt have any gyms close (now have some) and i was in fucking awful shape(now much better).
