would anyone know of something similar for judo ?

Shintaro Higashi has some on his YT channel but I'm not a judofag so idk if they're useful. I just watch his stuff so I can uchimata unsuspecting bluebelts at BJJ.

>no posters in /mag/
Does Yas Forums even fight?

Travis Stevens just released his own free solo drilling program on Judo Fanatics.

You can also look into Neil Adams uchi komi bands. Comes with a DVD with drills on it. Alternatively you can just use a giant band to do similar drills (this is what the strength coach for a bunch of Judoka at the olympic training center had them doing when he showed me their training program)

A giant band ?

How much John Danaher have you breh's watched? I've probably watched 80% of his total instructionals.

oh yeah, of course

>Was supposed to have my amateur debut in kickboxing April
>Thanks to Corona-chan, got moved to early June.
>Gym is closed so I can't even do bag drills or spar to take advantage of the extra time.
JUST

i honestly didn't know what to call them desu.

That sucks. We had smokers set up, one of our guys was supposed to fight in Glory in Europe (i'm assuming it's not happening?). Had another person training with us for UFC, another one of our guys waiting to get his first fight in UFC, is that going to happen? Shit's all fucked up breh. A bunch of my training partners were signed up for Pan Ams and had booked flights/hotels etc. A few idiots booked flights when the flight prices collapsed only to see it canceled the next day.

I was on vacation for a week, at the end of it ringworm appears on my neck, come back, can't roll that week cause of worm - can only coach, now this week shits all shut down. Been 3 weeks since I've rolled.

Iktf, I had my first BJJ tournament lined up.

bjj is gay

All grappling is gay, that doesn’t mean it’s bad.

No, the only people who talk about martial arts on here are people who don’t fight, and they mostly just talk about how either some obscure meme is good or how BJJ is bad.

>remember these kids in high school who did some weird martial art
>go look it up today
>it literally doesn't fucking exist in asia, it's some shit one guy from my city made up and says it comes from vietnam traditional martial arts
why do these people exist

Is it normal to get anxiety before practice? This shit kinda ruins my day

DA MONEY

Does anyone think a 6 month(noob) wrestler would do good at a white belt bjj tournament? Obviously I'll learn some stuff like submissions and shit before I go,is practicing for 4 months a good time before going? Also what's the scoring? I probably won't be able to finish my matches so how do i score in a bjj match?

Aw shit, guess the thread is gonna die again

You won't be good, cause you will be lacking in the ground, but it still will be a worthwhile experience. Just don't expect to be first.

Scoring depends per competition. But you can score on throws, tried submissions and advancing positions. Sometimes there is no score. Every tournament has a rulebook though, so it is easy to find out.

same, in May. Hope that one still goes through

'm considering going all-out in my training when the corona quarantine ends. This would mean BJJ/grappling 5-6 times a week, lifting once or twice, and wrestling once a week.
Would this be viable long term? I might have some difficulties with sleep due to work (6.5 - 7 hours normally). What other things do I have to consider? Or is this a dumn idea caused by boredom?

Been doing something very similar for most of the past 8 years - except far less sleep. Be VERY organized and meal prep. Don't fight hard every day, you'll need some chill days where you limit sparring to a handful of light rolls.

Ok, great. I have some follow up questions if you don't mind.
Do you work or have a gf/significant other?
Do you do competitions?
How should you mealprep, just lots of protein and carbs?
Also, how do you deal with lack of sleep? Naps throughout the day?
Any other tips or advice?

I just won my first boxing match yesterday. I felt pretty good since I won in the first round, but it's a mixed bag since the guy I went against was a douche that skipped training since he was "too advanced for the basics" and fell behind because of that. Still, a win is a win

>the guy I went against was a douche that skipped training since he was "too advanced for the basics" and fell behind because of that
shouldn't this make the win feel even better?

In a way, but it's not like winning against him proves that I'm getting any better as a boxer since there was no actual measurement. The next guy I am hopefully fighting is better than him and has been training for as long as me, so I'd be more proud of a win in that fight

That's true. Still, congrats for winning and putting a faggot in his place

>mfw when I quit wrestling and do nothing but sit there
>have to deal with the shame and embarrassment
Lads.....

>Do you work or have a gf/significant other?
Since about a year. I've made some changes to my schedule and gotten a home gym to free up some time for her. Let's say I skip one class a week on top of that to spend time with her.
Have always had a job during this period, used to always work early shifts, now switched to a different job.
>Do you do competitions?
A few a year, mostly Judo. Quit for a year, hoping restart after summer.
>How should you mealprep, just lots of protein and carbs?
Not an expert, but those I pay attention to indeed.
>Also, how do you deal with lack of sleep? Naps throughout the day?
When I worked early shifts I would typically take a ~30 minute nap after work.
>Any other tips or advice?
Be wary of injuries. That's the big one really. Learn to understand your body, knowing the difference between how an inflammation, a small muscle tear or whatever feel is quite useful in learning how to deal with injuries.

>Let's say I skip one class a week on top of that to spend time with her.
So how many classes per week are you doing now?
>Not an expert, but those I pay attention to indeed.
How much protein do you eat per day?
Any other tips on how bet to advance? And how to recover best?
Also, how much experience do you have in martial arts? And do you do any additional cardio? And what is your gym routine?

Bump

Well done user, keep winning. That's his problem, not yours

>too advanced for the basics
Imagine being this retarded

Currently zero. Thank you corona-chan. Disregarding the lockdown, I try to train once a day, but it varies between 5 to 10 classes a week.

>How much protein do you eat per day?
Haven't kept track recently, but let's say I aim to get at least 1.5g/kg of bodyweight.
>Any other tips on how bet to advance? And how to recover best?
Focus on improving a one or two aspects of your game at a time, for example certain throws or sweeps or a type of guard. Become well-rounded in the long run.
Once you're more advanced, try and find universal biomechanical principles. For example: putting torsion on someone's posterior chain prevents movement (see: crossface), unbalancing is required for all takedowns but also works well to set up guard submissions, always work in front of your torso - where you are strongest - but try to attack at an angle - where your opponent has less strength, using your weight, framing, dominant grips, move and generate power from your hips etc.
>Also, how much experience do you have in martial arts? And do you do any additional cardio? And what is your gym routine?
Decade of Judo, close to the same in BJJ, dabbling in (kick)boxing and Aikido (which has learned me most of the above principles better than my other martial arts) - have dabbled in random other martial arts as well. Don't really do cardio but cycle everywhere.

Gym routine focuses on posterior chain and injury prevention. Deadlifts, rows, pull-ups and assistance for whatever nagging injury I have take up most of my gym time. I have a strong grip and my posture is very hard to break as a result, which is immensely useful in grappling, because it allows me to preemptively stuff 90% of what most people can throw at me.

Almost nothing, he's so boring. I've watched a couple of Ryan Hall ones, they're great. The day after watching his arm triangle DVD I choked someone unconscious with one.

Holy shit.
Rimmer got JACKED

That sucks, had boxing fights and can't imagine how frustrating It must be to have it postponed.
Stay strong man, your time will come.
Meanwhile keep training in everyway compatible with your environement.

Anyone know any good martial arts places near toronto that isn't too expensive?
All the ones I've found that are pretty reasonable in price are more "fitness and health"

bump

You should build up to it overtime. I usually train twice a day, and 3 times with the 3rd session being drilling on a dummy/cardio or lifting when I'm getting ready for a competition or feeling energetic.

Training once a day is literally nothing, but I've been doing it for so long that I'm very efficient. Probably harder if you are a spaz with shit technique.

Thanks a lot man.
>Decade of Judo, close to the same in BJJ, dabbling in (kick)boxing and Aikido
Would you recommend doing this amount of volume to someone who has less than one year of experience?
>Don't really do cardio but cycle everywhere.
Are you Dutch by anh chance?
>Gym routine focuses on posterior chain and injury prevention
How heavy do you usually go in the gym?

5 minutes were all I could handle. Try Jon Thomas

>these fags complaining
I like /ourguy/ soothing lizardman Danaher. He's an autist and really knows his shit. Just pay attention anons.

>Would you recommend doing this amount of volume to someone who has less than one year of experience?
I pulled it off, but your mileage may vary. Don't be afraid to take the occasional rest day if you're too beat up, or roll light if you're having a rough day.
>Are you Dutch by anh chance?
Close but no cigar, Belgian.
>How heavy do you usually go in the gym?
For deadlifts I periodize, so I go hard once a month and really hard once every two months. Keep in mind that I DL 3xbw, so if you're not at that level you can probably lift hard with a more regular frequency. Just don't fry your CNS. Other lifts don't impact me as much as I can go heavy whenever I feel okay. Trying to get some progression in those too, but at this stage I'm mostly maintaining because I'm slacking.

No arguing that he knows his stuff like few others do, but he could easily convey the same information just as effectively in a third of the time.

Thanks for all the information. Just one more question, how old are you?

What are some other instructors you would suggest?

I have ;)

It's good for putting me to sleep though

What should I go for?
I've been doing Karate for a year or so and I've enjoyed it. I'm not too big a fan of kata though.
I was debating on trying out Judo or BJJ next. We've done more groundwork during my Karate classes so I'm familiar with the basics of BJJ and I'll admit that's probably my favorite part of it. Free rolls are the days I live for. My only problem is my takedown and throw (well striking too) game is fucking atrocious. I was thinking of taking Judo to supplement it but I'm going to miss the groundwork of BJJ.
I have a feeling Judo will attract less douchebags but at the same time...I don't want to be stuck in Kata hell again.

>Thanks for all the information. Just one more question, how old are you?
33
>What are some other instructors you would suggest?
I'm not much of a video person and don't watch specific teachers as a result; I use videos if I'm stuck with something and I need new input, or if I'm working on a specific theme.

>I don't want to be stuck in Kata hell again.
Unless you blunder into that one oddball place, you won't be doing a lot of kata during Judo.

you're not wrong, but when you come across a technique that you're struggling with you appreciate how he explains the fucking shit out of something

yes, thats pretty universal

>judo and BJJ cancelled for an indefinite time
Thanks chinks

If you have good training partners you shouldn't feel anxiety at PRACTICE after white belt. You get used to losing now and again and you trust your training partners not to hurt you.

Competition anxiety is always a thing for 90% of people. It's just a natural human thing.

Does anyone have any other martial arts Megas?
>looking for danaher leglock System for free pls

How’s everyone coping with the closures?
>had to stop training for the last 5 weeks, uni and rugby were taking up all my time
>finally ready to get back to judo and BJJ
>corona-chan shuts down my university sending me back home, and all judo/BJJ is shut down even if I wanted to get new memberships at home.
>I’ve been trying to get my gf to practice leg locks with me but she doesn’t like it
>all my training is on hold
And I was so excited to have more time to practice martial arts.

Girlfriends are useless for training, I keep telling mine to just tap if it hurts but she just keeps screaming instead.
